WWE Hall of Famer appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night to promote the documentary “I Am Santa Claus”, which is now streaming on Netflix and is out on DVD. The interview started with Foley discussing how he’s worn Santa related attire for the last 350 days.

Foley was asked how the film came to be. Foley said that the Director Tommy Avallone always puts a wrestler in his film and someone told him about how Foley kept a year-round Christmas room for years. This led to them discussing how Mick loves Christmas but had never experiences what it was like to be Santa. Mick showed that he was wearing Santa boots and would be going to sing and perform as Santa with Norah Jones after the interview.

Stewart asked how the process of finding Santas for the film went and whether there were Santas angry they weren’t included. Foley said there were indeed angry Santas and told a story about recently taking part in a Fruitcake Festival. He learned that there was a plot from other Santas to protest his appearance. Foley said that after the sting of the news hit him, he joked that he really wanted them to protest.

Stewart asked if these were Lone Wolf Santas or whether they were part of a larger, official Santa organization. Foley said there were “top notch guys” in the film and that the director picked great subjects.

Foley said there was a fear and a phobia at the film making the Santa World look bad. Stewart joked that Santa is the most judgmental of all, because he decides who is naughty and nice. Foley said that people who see the film have a deeper appreciation for the “men who wear the red suit”, which Stewart pounced upon.

Stewart says that Santa almost looms larger for non-Christians because the entire season is about this great guy. Foley said that at the last documentary screening, a woman said it was her favorite documentary of the year and she was Jewish.

Foley said the film is about real, bearded Santa who live for that season. Foley said that the one that visited his home changed his name legally to Santa Claus.

No wrestling talk but a great, fun showing from Mick who Stewart referred to as “all around greatest guy ever.”
