John Laurinaitis was the producer and head agent for WWE’s tour of Japan, including the “Beast in the East” special on the WWE Network. It was his idea to use streamers before the NXT title match with Finn Balor and Kevin Owens, as well as the pre-match ceremony with women in kimonos presenting flowers to both men. He thought it would cater to the local crowd and give the show a unique Japanese touch that’s different from regular WWE TV.
WWE sent a production crew to Tokyo to air the show but saved money by using a stripped down setup. The live special was considered a huge success and WWE is looking into doing more Network exclusive specials.
