Hulk Hogan’s Gawker Lawsuit Unsealed Request Submitted

Hulk Hogan’s attempts to keep his lawsuit against Gawker Media over his leaked sex tape quiet may well prove fruitless. The Tampa Bay Tribune reports that several media outlets — including the Associated Press — have asked the judge in the lawsuit to unseal records in the case.

A big part of the reason for the request is the fact that the FBI investigated the leak, and after Gawker filed a public records request the information was released to Gawker but sealed otherwise. The high level of secrecy around the private, civil lawsuit has lead to increased media interest over why they’re being so private.

Hogan was released from WWE after part of a deposition was leaked to the Enquirer, which included a transcript of the Hall of Famer going on a racially-charged rant. Hogan has blamed Gawker for the leak, while the media outlet has denied such. Hogan sued Gawker for $100 million over their publishing of a one-minute excerpt of the tape with commentary about it, claiming invasion of privacy. His lawyers have been trying hard to keep anything related to the tape from being released since.

The lawsuit trial will begin in March of next year.
