A new article from The Texas Tribune reports that WrestleMania 32 will cost the taxpayers of Texas $2.7 million dollars. Governor Greg Abbott signed off on a plan that will spend the amount from the state’s Events Trust Fund to bring WrestleMania 32 to Arlington. The purpose of the fund is to defray “the costs of some large events by paying state taxes collected during the events, such as those levied on hotel reservations and car rentals, back to event organizers.”
Several Texas outlets are reporting on the cost of bringing the event to the state, as Abbott hasn’t been happy with taxpayer-funded economic incentives in the past. The state will likely make the amount back, however, as WrestleMania 31 brought in $139 million in revenue for the Santa Clara/San Jose area in California this year.
