Cody Rhodes took to Twitter today to deny reports that he doesn’t own the rights to the Rhodes name for his indy appearances. Speculation arose over the last couple of days after it was noted that none of his Pro Wrestling Tees merchandise uses the Rhodes name, and spiked after a post in the Wrestling Memorabilia Club from an artist said he’d left “Rhodes” off of a commission for Rhodes’ charity match against Kurt Angle at Cody’s request.
Cody posted on the social media site:
I own Rhodes
He was with me for my first breath and I was with him for his last
There's no piece of paper on Earth that takes my name away

It is worth noting that the current trademark on “Cody Rhodes” is still registered as owned by WWE, although there could always be some agreement between Cody and the company that allows him the rights to the name while WWE still maintains official ownership. It should be noted that this is usually not the case though.
