There have been rumors that John Cena will win the Royal Rumble and go on to face AJ Styles at WrestleMania, but according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that is not the plan right now and Cena will be in “a much bigger match than Styles.”
There’s no word on what that match will be yet, but the Observer’s Dave Meltzer said that he was told it will be clear within a few weeks. With WWE planning on making the 25th anniversary Raw on January 22 a big one, there’s a chance that we’ll get a better picture by then.
A match that would be bigger than a WWE title match against Styles would seem to indicate that Cena’s opponent will be a non-regular wrestler or a surprise wrestler. Meltzer says that the only names he can think of are The Undertaker, Batista, Goldberg or Hulk Hogan, with Hogan seeming the least likely out of those due to his age, back problems, and the other issues…
