Joey Janela Posts Injury Update, Says He’s Going to Be Out for a Long Time

Indie superstar “Bad Boy” Joey Janela suffered a serious knee injury this past Friday night at a Game Changer Wrestling show in Asbury Park, NJ. During a match against Psicosis, Janela jumped off of the top turnbuckle onto Psicosis on the outside and landed badly on his left leg, twisting his knee around. You can see the injury happen in the video below:

Janela posted an update today with his MRI results and they were bad. In a video on Twitter, Janela said that he’s going to be out “for a long while” and speculated that he’d be back in maybe 6-10 months.

The injuries were:

1. Complete or near complete PCL tear

2. Complete tear of MCL distally

3. Impaction fracture of the medial femoral condyle

4. Mild bone contusion of the lateral tibial plateau

5. Sprain of the fibular collateral ligament

6. Partial tear of the medial paterllofemoral ligament

7. ACL sprain

8. Small knee effusion

Here’s a transcript of the video:

Hey guys. Trying to be as enthusiastic as possible given the situation in my life, but this past Saturday, at Game Changer Wrestling in Asbury Park, NJ, I was wrestling Psicosis and it was going great until I hate a crossbody dive to the outside – a move I’ve hit over a hundred times without issue. This time was a little different. I just came down wrong, bad on my left leg, badly contorted my left knee. It bent into a position that a human’s leg should never bend in.

I got the MRI results back today and it’s something. It’s a long list of things. I completely tore and destroyed my PCL. I completely tore and destroyed my MCL. There’s an impaction fracture in one of the bones in my knee that I don’t know how to pronounce. I don’t know how to pronounce a lot of this shit, I’m not a doctor, so don’t get on me for that. I have a mild bone contusion in another bone in my knee, a sprain of the fibular collateral ligament, I think I got that right. A partial tear of another ligament, patellofemoral ligament. I have an ACL sprain and a small knee effusion. It’s about eight things.

I’m gonna need surgery, it seems like. I’ve talked to a few specialists and I’m gonna be out for a long while, gonna disappear for a bit. But this summer, the last two years have been great. Never thought I’d make it this far in my wrestling career, and when I come back, six, seven, eight, nine, ten months from now, I’m gonna be better than ever. Thank you.

Janela wrestles for several indie promotions and is the current WWN Champion in EVOLVE. That title will likely have to be vacated. He also wrestled at All In, losing to Hangman Page in a Chicago Street Fight.
