The SmackDown Women’s Title Might Also Be on the Line in the Rousey/Lynch/Flair Match

Charlotte Flair will be going into the WrestleMania main event as SmackDown Women’s Champion after defeating Asuka for the title on Tuesday. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, as of now, the current plan for the WrestleMania match is that the SmackDown title will also be on the line and WWE will possibly add that stipulation on Raw this week. The working idea is that if someone beats Ronda Rousey, they will win the Raw title and if they beat Charlotte, they’ll win the SmackDown title. So if Becky pins or submits Charlotte, she will win the SmackDown title and not the Raw title.

At least that’s the plan for now and it could easily change by Monday, since Vince McMahon has been reportedly coming up with changes to the match on the fly. The decision for Charlotte to win the title on SmackDown was reportedly made just hours before the show.

It seems like adding the SmackDown title into the mix could also possibly have something to do with whether or not Ronda Rousey will be taking a long break after WrestleMania. She’s expected to be done as a full timer either after WrestleMania or possibly at the next PPV. If Rousey is staying after WrestleMania, there’s a chance that WWE could do a Rousey vs. Lynch singles match at the next PPV or later. So WWE could end up having Becky Lynch beat Charlotte Flair to win the SmackDown title at WrestleMania, then beat Rousey for the Raw title later. It all seems very convoluted.

WWE reportedly does still want to keep separate titles for each brand, according to the Observer, so whatever happens, it’s unlikely that the titles will be unified as one.
