More on AEW Dynamite vs. WWE NXT Week 8 Viewership

As noted before, this past week’s episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw NXT defeat AEW in viewership for the first time since the start of their head-to-head competition while AEW managed to remain on top in the key demographic rankings. AEW Dynamite drew 893,000 viewers on TNT and a #8 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 916,000 viewers on USA Network and a #14 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NXT won the first three quarter-hours and five of the eight total quarters against AEW in terms of viewers. AEW won every key demographic group with the exception of the 50+ demo for every quarter-hour.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 912,000 viewers and dropped to as low as 806,000 viewers during the Private Party vs. Santana & Ortiz post-match and the intros for the Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin match. AEW’s highest viewership point in the show was at 1,004,000 viewers for the Chris Jericho and SCU promo segment and Luchasaurus vs. Peter Avalon match. AEW’s biggest gain of the night was the end of the Battle Royal match and beginning of the Chris Jericho promo segment which gained 98,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Private Party vs. Santana & Ortiz tag team match which lost 196,000 viewers.

NXT started off with 1,047,000 viewers and dropped to as low as 821,000 viewers during the Adam Cole vs. Dominik Dijakovic Ladder match. NXT’s highest point in viewership reportedly was at 1,072,000 viewers for the end of the Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley and Ricochet vs. Matt Riddle matches and inter-brand brawls. NXT’s biggest gain of the night was the Dakota Kai vs. Kay Lee Ray and Viking Raiders vs. Forgotten Sons matches which gained 48,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the beginning of the Undisputed Era vs. The Revival tag team match which lost 154,000 viewers. In regards to NXT’s over-run, the show gained an additional 229,000 viewers to end the night. Meltzer reported that 120,000 of those extra viewers came from the 50+ demo group.

In regards to Canadian viewership, neither this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show nor the prior week’s episode of NXT that aired on November 15th ranked in the Top 10 for sports programming. Meltzer reported that the number ten spot for this past Wednesday was around 118,000 viewers meaning AEW drew less than that overall.
