AEW vs. NXT Week 28 Viewership Update

As noted before, the April 8th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT resulted in Dynamite generating around 692,000 viewers on TNT and a #32 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT generated around 693,000 viewers on USA Network and a #51 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an update that featured the quarter-hour breakdowns and other details that were not available in last week’s issue.

Dave Meltzer reported that a key reason for NXT’s viewership win was due to their lead-in program drew around 986,000 viewers near the end giving NXT a huge advantage going into their show compared to AEW’s lead-in program, which had around 617,000 viewers. In regards to the quarter-hours, Meltzer reported that AEW won all eight quarters in the key demographic group and five out of eight quarters in total viewership.

Of the notable segments on both shows, Meltzer reported that the Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa match had very strong viewership gains at the start but then declined in every quarter afterwards, losing three out of the four quarters it aired against Dynamite. Despite the Best Friends vs. Kenny Omega & Michael Nakazawa tag team match generating the bulk of online criticisms for AEW’s show, Meltzer reported that it had AEW’s strongest viewership gains and almost hit AEW’s viewership peak for the night.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 741,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the bulk of the Best Friends vs. Omega & Nakazawa match which gained 37,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the second Jon Moxley and Jake Hager video package, Matt Hardy promo segment, and Brodie Lee vs. Lee Johnson match which lost 74,000 viewers.

NXT started off with around 842,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley video package and the start of the Gargano vs. Ciampa match which gained 60,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the latter half of the #1 Contender for the NXT Women’s Championship Ladder match which lost 100,000 viewers.


More on AEW vs. NXT Week 29 Viewership

The April 15th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw NXT top AEW for a second week in a row in overall viewership and AEW maintaining their advantage over NXT in the key demographic rankings.

AEW Dynamite drew 683,000 viewers on TNT and a #29 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 692,000 viewers on USA Network and a #58 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

The results of the quarter-hour segment breakdowns were not revealed in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter but Dave Meltzer reported that when removing news shows, AEW was ranked seventh and NXT was ranked tenth for its time slot. Meltzer also reported that AEW’s biggest increase was with the teenager demographic group at 22.2% and their biggest decline was with the 35-49 demographic group at 7.9%. Due to NXT failing to rank in the Top 50 for the fourth week in a row, demographic breakdowns were not available but Meltzer reported that NXT saw a 10.5% decline in viewership with the key 18-49 demographic group.


Canadian Viewership for AEW’s April 1st Show, Ratings Issues with AEW & NXT April 8th Week Shows

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW Dynamite drew 83,200 viewers for their April 1st episode on TSN in Canada.

Meltzer also reported that AEW Dynamite’s April 8th show failed to rank in the Top 10 for sports for the night although it was very likely due to a chart omission issue and not due to poor viewership. Meltzer also reported that WWE NXT’s April 10th show also very likely suffered the same charting issue due to it not ranking in the Top 10 for sports for that night.
