AEW vs. NXT Week 33 Viewership Update

As noted before, the May 13th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT resulted in Dynamite generating around 654,000 viewers on TNT and a #15 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT generated around 604,000 viewers on USA Network and a #46 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an update that featured more details for both shows that week.

Dave Meltzer reported that in terms of the key demographic breakdowns, AEW Dynamite’s high point for both Males 18-34 and Males 35-49 was the Kenny Omega & Matt Hardy vs. Santana & Ortiz match. For Females 18-34 and Females 35-49, the high point was the Cody and Lance Archer brawl and the start of the Best Friends vs. Jurassic Express match.

WWE NXT’s high point for both Males 18-34 and Males 35-49 was the Finn Balor vs. Cameron Grimes match. For Females 18-34, the high point was the NXT Tag Team Championship match of Imperium vs. Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher. For Females 35-49, the high point was the Balor vs. Grimes match.


More on AEW vs. NXT Week 34 Viewership

The May 20th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw an increase in viewership for Dynamite but a small decline in viewership for NXT. AEW also managed to top NXT in terms of overall viewership and key demographic rankings.

AEW Dynamite drew 701,000 viewers on TNT and a #7 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 592,000 viewers on USA Network and a #53 ranking in 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that unlike last week with UFC, AEW was not affected by the sports competition NSACAR’s Toyota 500 race on FOX but the same can not be said for NXT. In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW reportedly had 337,000 viewers while NXT had 172,000 viewers. Meltzer also reported that AEW won every quarter-hour in terms of both the key demographic group and overall viewership.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 706,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the bulk of the Kris Statlander & Hikaru Shida vs. Nyla Rose & Britt Baker match and Jon Moxley interview segment which gained 47,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Shawn Spears vignette, promos for next week’s show, and the start of the Matt Hardy vs. Sammy Guevara match.

WWE NXT started off with around 701,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the KUSHIDA vs. Drake Maverick match and Damian Priest promo segment which gained 34,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the El Hijo del Fantasma vs. Akira Tozawa match.


Canadian Ratings for AEW’s May 19th & NXT’s May 15th Shows

Dave Meltzer reported that AEW drew 81,800 viewers for their May 19th episode of Dynamite on TSN in Canada.

Meltzer also reported that due to a ratings error involving Sportsnet 360 in Canada, the viewership for NXT’s May 15th episode is currently not known. This ratings error also affected the May 15th episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown on the network.
