More on AEW vs. NXT Week 55 Viewership

The October 21st episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw both shows decline in overall viewership and mixed results for key demographic rankings. AEW also managed to maintain their advantage over NXT in terms of key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 753,000 viewers and a #13 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 644,000 and a #56 ranking in the 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main cause for the decline in overall viewership for both shows was very stiff competition from Game 2 of the MLB World Series and presidential election-related news coverage.

In regards to demographic viewership breakdowns, AEW was up 1.6% while NXT was down 8.9% in key demographic viewership compared to last week. For key demographic viewership, AEW reportedly had 389,000 viewers while NXT had 205,000 viewers. Both shows also reportedly suffered the biggest decline with the Males 18-34 demographic group. In regards to female viewership, both shows had more female viewers than male viewers in the 18-34 demographic group and AEW had more female viewers in the Teenagers demographic group.

In terms of quarter-hour breakdowns, AEW reportedly won seven out of eight quarters in overall viewership and all eight quarters for key demographic viewership. NXT’s sole quarter win for overall viewership was the first quarter due to its large advantage in lead-in programming on USA Network over AEW and TNT.

In regards to AEW’s Le Dinner Debonair segment for the sixth quarter-hour, it averaged around 676,000 viewers with 352,000 in key demographic viewers and had peaked at slightly under 800,000 for overall viewers. For comparisons, NXT’s sixth quarter-hour averaged around 607,000 viewers with 178,000 in key demographic viewers.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 22.3% in overall viewership and 33.3% in key demographic viewership while NXT was down 7.5% in overall viewership and 23.8% in key demographic viewership compared to the same week last year.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 737,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Four-way tag team match which gained 76,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the back-to-back quarter-hours featuring the Hangman Adam Page vs. Colt Cabana match and the Taz interview segment and Chris Jericho & MJF Le Dinner Debonair musical segment which lost 73,000 viewers each.

WWE NXT started off with around 765,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the NXT Tag Team Championship match of Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch vs. Breezango which gained 17,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the El Legado del Fantasma vs. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Jake Atlas, & Ashante Adonis match which lost 97,000 viewers.


Canadian and United Kingdom Viewership for Several AEW & NXT October Shows

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW drew around 81,600 viewers for their October 14th episode on TSN in Canada.

Meltzer also reported that AEW drew 143,000 viewers for their October 9th episode on ITV 4 in the United Kindom. NXT reportedly did not chart for their October 7th episode on BT Sport in the United Kingdom. For some comparisons, Impact Wrestling reportedly drew 13,000 viewers for their October 7th episode on Freesports in the United Kingdom
