NJPW: Marty Scurll Update, New Japan Cup USA 2021, New Japan Cup 2021 Night 1 Card

NJPW Reportedly Dropped All Plans & Bookings for Marty Scurll

As noted before, former Ring of Honor talent and co-booker Marty Scurll worked at a set of tapings held this past January by New Japan Pro Wrestling for their weekly NJPW Strong series.

The Super J-Cast reported that NJPW officials recently dropped all of their plans and bookings for Scurll following the backlash of his involvement with their NJPW Strong series. It was also reported that the angle that was shot featuring Scurll at January’s tapings has also been scrapped and will no longer being airing on a future episode of NJPW Strong.

Fightful Select reported that the general reaction within NJPW’s U.S. locker room was one of unhappiness and anger towards NJPW officials over Scurll’s appearance at the tapings. It was reported that several talent spoken stated that had they known ahead of time that Scurll was going to be involved, they would have not worked at those set of tapings.

Several members of the roster weren’t thrilled with his involvement either.” It was also said that “numerous people who worked the tapings that said if they would have been made aware of Scrull’s involvement ahead of time, they would have made it clear that they didn’t want to work at the tapings.

NJPW Announces New Japan Cup USA 2021 Tournament for April

New Japan Pro Wrestling recently announced that they will be holding this year’s New Japan Cup USA tournament during the month of April.

It was announced that this eight-man tournament will air on their weekly NJPW Strong series starting on April 2nd. The winner of this tournament was stated to receive a future title shot for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship, currently held by Jon Moxley.

It was also announced that qualifying matches for this tournament will start with the March 5th episode of NJPW Strong.
