More on AEW vs. NXT Week 79 Viewership & Final Head-to-Head Stats

The April 1st episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw Dynamite suffer a small decline in viewership while NXT managed to top AEW for overall viewership. AEW continued their advantage over NXT in regards to key demographic viewership. This week’s shows were notable for being the final week both went head-to-head against each other and also as Night 1 of NXT’s TakeOver: Stand & Deliver event.

AEW drew 688,000 viewers and a #5 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 768,000 and a #11 ranking in the 18-49 demographic.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NXT’s overall viewership this week is currently estimated to have been in the high 800,000s to low 900,000s range when including the simulcast viewership from NBC’s Peacock service. Meltzer reported that a high end estimate for NXT’s viewership on Peacock would be around 148,000 viewers. Meltzer also reported that the combined key demographic viewership for NXT’s show this week is estimated to have been around 340,000 to 355,000.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW reportedly had 366,000 viewers while NXT had 282, 000 viewers. AEW’s biggest increase was their Females 18-34 group at 40.5% higher while their sole decrease was with their Males 35-49 group at 2.5% lower than last week’s show. NXT’s biggest increase was with their Females 35-49 group at 30.6% higher while their sole decrease was with their Males 18-34 group at 42.4% lower than last week’s show. AEW reportedly won three out of the four key demographic groups while NXT’s sole win was with the Females 35-49 group for the second week in a row.

In terms of quarter-hour viewership, AEW reportedly won two out of the eight quarters for overall viewership and all eight quarters for key demographic viewership. AEW reportedly won the second and seventh quarters.

In terms of the main event quarter, AEW reportedly had 724,000 for overall viewership and 376,000 for key demographic viewership for the Six-Man Tag Team match of Jon Moxley & The Young Bucks vs. Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers. NXT reportedly had 858,000 for overall viewership and 349,000 for key demographic viewership for the NXT Women’s Championship match of Raquel Gonzalez vs. Io Shirai. Meltzer reported that NXT’s viewership rose to around 1,106,000 viewers during the final few minutes of their main event due to their very large gains from their overrun after AEW’s show ended.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 0.6% in overall viewership and up 7.7% in key demographic viewership. NXT was up 10.8% in overall viewership and up 15.8% in key demographic viewership.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 691,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Pinnacle’s beatdown of Chris Jericho and Mike Tyson surprise appearance segment, the Britt Baker promo segemnt, and the bulk of the Tay Conti vs. The Bunny match which gained 112,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Christian Cage & Taz backstage segment and the start of the Jurassic Express vs. Bear Country match which lost 88,000 viewers.

WWE NXT started off with around 700,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the NXT Women’s Championship match which gained 117,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the start of the NXT Tag Team Championship Triple Threat match which lost 80,000 viewers. NXT’s overrun gained an additional 247,000 viewers to end the night. Meltzer reported that this week’s overrun was one of the largest ever since NXT’s move to the USA Network.


Notable Stats from AEW vs. NXT Wednesday Night Wars

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter the final tally for AEW and WWE’s head-to-head competition on Wednesdays.

In regards to overall viewership, AEW won 62 shows, NXT won 10 shows, and both shows tied twice. In regards to key demographic viewership, AEW won 73 shows while NXT won one show.

In regards to quarter-hours, AEW reportedly won 480 quarters for overall viewership and 587 quarters for key demographic viewership. NXT reportedly won 110 quarters for overall viewership and 13 quarters for key demographic viewership. Both shows tied twice for overall viewership.
