AEW Rampage Preview for August 27, 2021

Wednesday night on DYNAMITE, the face of ALL OUT 2021 on September 5th continued to be shaped by the amazing talent that compromises the AEW locker room! CM Punk joined Tony Schiavone to address his bout with Darby Allin at the NOW Arena, Kris Statlander was officially confirmed as the challenger for Dr. Britt Baker’s AEW Women’s World Title, and Jon Moxley received a special contract offer for that pay-per-view evening.

On top of that, The Lucha Bros defeated Varsity Blonds to advance to the World Tag Team Title Eliminator Finals against Jurassic Express, Jamie Hayter had an impressive and victorious debut against Red Velvet, and Frankie Kazarian threw his support behind Christian Cage heading towards ALL OUT 2021. This Friday night on AEW RAMPAGE, we will find out just who join The Young Bucks inside that Steel Cage in Schaumburg to challenge for the World Tag Team Titles, we will see the AEW World Champion in tag team action against the duo of Cage and Kazarian, and The Bunny will go head-to-head with Tay Conti!

It all begins at 10pm EST/9pm CST on TNT, or on AEWPlus.com for our International audiences! And to get ready for Friday night, be sure to visit the official AEW YouTube channel for all the DYNAMITE highlights, as well as the latest editions of DARK: ELEVATION, DARK, and ROAD TO!

TAG TEAM GRUDGE MATCH…

AEW World Champion Kenny Omega & Brandon Cutler Vs. (#1) IMPACT World Champion Christian Cage & “The Elite Hunter” Frankie Kazarian

Back in March, Frankie Kazarian was the first man to welcome Christian Cage into an AEW ring, and their collision resulted in an absolutely sublime contest. In the five months since, the current number one contender for the AEW World Title built up a tremendous resume with one victory after another men such as Matt Hardy, Angelico, Powerhouse Hobbs, and even Kenny Omega himself in their IMPACT World Title match. With nine victories under his belt, Cage’s date with destiny is set for ALL OUT 2021 on September 5th and that night he will get another opportunity to take a second title from “The Belt Collector” when the AEW World Title is on the line!

But the road to get there is not an easy one as Christian Cage has found out on several occasions, including when Omega dropped him skull first with a One Winged Angel last week on DYNAMITE, followed by Don Callis giving a mock three count. This past Wednesday night on DYNAMITE, Christian Cage entered into the lion’s den once more and fearlessly stood before Omega, Callis, Brandon Cutler, and MT Nakazawa fully aware of what could happen. The quartet did not disappoint, but the likely did not expect a pipe-wielding Frankie Kazarian to hit the ring to offer his assistance. Omega and crew predictably bailed, but that brings us to this tag team contest here putting the AEW World Champion and his next challenger on opposite sides of the ring!

Christian Cage has already proven he can beat Kenny by taking the IMPACT World Title from “The Cleaner” on the debut addition of AEW RAMPAGE. Will he continue to reside in the AEW World Champion’s head with another victory Friday night?

WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE ELIMINATOR TOURNAMENT FINALS…

(#2) Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus w/ Marko Stunt) Vs. (#3) Lucha Bros (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix w/ Alex Abrahantes)

***WINNING TEAM FACES THE YOUNG BUCKS AT ALL OUT 2021 INSIDE A STEEL CAGE***

While these two units may have lent each other a hand Wednesday night to teach The Young Bucks a little lesson, this Friday night, with an ALL OUT 2021 World Tag Team Title Steel Cage Match on the line, the stakes are way too high for that!

All four men are hungry for the opportunity to face the brothers Jackson on September 5th, but to get there, they first have to win on AEW RAMPAGE. In their lone AEW meeting almost one year ago on DYNAMITE, it was Jurassic Express who picked up the victory, so no doubt Penta and Fenix want to even the score in addition to scoring the title opportunity on pay-per-view.

With two supremely talented teams such as these, this tag team battle will all come down to who wants it more, who is more willing to risk it all, and who wants a piece of Matt and Nick the most! The Young Bucks have certainly done enough in recent weeks to anger JurEx, and their history with The Lucha Bros is quite rich given bouts such as the ALL OUT 2019 Escalera De La Muerte Ladder Match, so all four have plenty of motivation to push them on to ALL OUT 2021!

ONE-ON-ONE…

The Bunny (w/ Blade) vs. (#3) Tay Conti

At ALL OUT 2021, the Women’s Casino Battle Royale makes its return and both of these competitors have entered into the fray! In singles competition, the two women had one prior singles encounter back in April that went the way of Conti, while they have split their two tag team encounters, and their multi-woman bout at THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS went in favor of Tay’s team.

This second one-on-one encounter is certain to add fuel to the fire heading into ALL OUT 2021’s Women’s Casino Battle Royal and the World Title opportunity that awaits the winner of that spectacle. On Friday night, each of these women aims to stake their claim as the one to beat, and there is no doubt with The Blade in her corner, that The Bunny will cut any corners she needs to to try and get the victory!

Will The Bunny take Tay for a trip down the Rabbit Hole? Or will it be a DDTay that ends the night for The HFO member?

NINE DAYS…

With just nine days to go until their highly-anticipated bout at ALL OUT 2021, tonight on RAMPAGE we will hear from both CM Punk and Darby Allin! Last week on RAMPAGE: THE FIRST DANCE, Punk made his debut and opened up to the world about his feelings, his goals, and about his desire to face Darby. On Wednesday’s DYNAMITE, as seen in the video embedded above, Punk delved further into that by stating this is about proving to himself that he still has it, and is still worthy of being called The Best In The World.

Darby Allin, as a former TNT Champin who set records for both successful defenses and length of reign, wants to perpetually test himself against the best so it only seems fitting to him that this be his next challenge. Still, after the assault “Red Death” Daniel Garcia perpetrated on Wednesday, there’s got to be a few other things on Allin’s mind besides Punk. Can Darby maintain his focus so close to ALL OUT 2021? We will hear from both men Friday night on RAMPAGE!

THE REDEEMER SPEAKS…

After his demolition of Fuego Del Sol on the debut episode of AEW RAMPAGE, the TNT Champion moved on to his next target when he challenged “The Mad King” Eddie Kingston to face him. It has been fascinating to watch Miro take the concept of the TNT Title Open Challenge that Cody Rhodes introduced as the first champions, and turn it on its head by being the one to make the challenges to his foes.

In the video embedded above, “The Redeemer” once more called out the name of Kingston and this Friday night on RAMPAGE, Miro will be in the house and no doubt will have The Mad King’s name on his lips when he addresses the audience! Will Kingston have a response for the TNT Champion, and if so, will it come in the form of fists or verbal fire?
