AEW Week 106 Viewership Update

As noted before, the October 16th episode of AEW Dynamite resulted in AEW drawing 727,000 viewers, a 0.28 key demographic rating,and a 9th place key demographic ranking on TNT.

This week’s issue of the Wresting Observer Newsletter provided more details for AEW’s show that week.

Dave Meltzer reported that AEW’s episode that night started off with around 761,000 viewers and had around 793,000 viewers for its second quarter, around 740,000 viewers for its third quarter, around 711,000 viewers for its fourth quarter, around 677,000 viewers for its fifth quarter, around 716,000 viewers for its sixth quarter, around 702,000 viewers for its seventh quarter, and around 714,000 viewers for its main event quarter featuring the Bryan Danielson vs. Bobby Fish match.

In regards to peaks, Meltzer reported that AEW’s peak for total viewers, males overall, females overall, and Males 19-49 demographic viewership groups was their second quarter. AEW’s overall key demographic viewership for that quarter was around 391,000 viewers. AEW’s peak for their Females 18-49 group was their sixth quarter.

AEW’s lowest point for overall key demographic viewership was their fourth quarter which had around 340,000 viewers.


More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for October 23rd

The October 23rd episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a large drop in both overall viewership and key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 575,000 viewers and a 0.22 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 10th place.

Detailed demographic and quarter-hours breakdowns were not available in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s large decline for that week’s episode was due to very stiff sports competition and their much lower than usual Males 35-49 and overall Females key demographic viewership groups, which were down 35.2% in Males 35-49, down 40% in Females 18-34, and down 23.1% in Females 35-49.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the MLB Playoffs NLCS Game 6 of Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Atlanta Braves drew 6,949,000 viewers on TBS and the College Football game of Tennessee Volunteers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide drew 4,679,000 viewers on ESPN.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 288,000 viewers. AEW’s sole increase was with their Males 18-34 group at 25.3% higher than the prior week’s show. AEW’s biggest decrease was their Females 18-34 group at 40% lower than the prior week’s show.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 26.4% in overall viewership and down 29.9% in key demographic viewership.


More on WWE NXT Viewership for October 26th

The October 26th episode of WWE NXT saw NXT gain a large increase in overall viewership, key demographic ratings, and key demographic rankings. This week’s episode was notable for being the Halloween Havoc 2021 themed show.

NXT drew 746,000 viewers and a 0.18 key demographic rating on USA Network. NXT’s key demographic ranking for that night was 11th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for NXT’s large increase for this week’s show was due to its much higher than usual Males 18-34 and Females 35-49 viewership groups, which were up 73% and 84% respectively. Meltzer reported that the huge gains in both of these groups were enough to help raise NXT’s median age viewership to 58 years old for this week’s episode, which was lower than their recent average of 62 years old but was still WWE’s oldest skewing show for the past week.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the MLB World Series 2021 Game 1 of Atlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros drew 10,811,000 viewers on FOX and the NBA game of Philadelphia 76ers vs. New York Knicks drew 1,431,000 viewers on TNT.

In terms of key demographic viewership, NXT had 241,000 viewers. All four of NXT’s key demographic viewership groups were up with the biggest being their Females 35-49 group at 84% higher than last week’s show.

In terms of yearly comparisons, NXT was down 11.6% in overall viewership and down 24.9% in key demographic viewership.

WWE NXT started off with around 795,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the second NXT Halloween party backstage segment and the bulk of the NXT Women’s Championship match of Mandy Rose vs. Raquel Gonzalez which gained 93,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the ending of the NXT Women’s Championship match and the second Haunted House segment which lost 89,000 viewers.


More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for October 27th

The October 27th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership, key demographic ratings, and key demographic rankings. This week’s episode was notable for being AEW’s return to Wednesdays on TNT after a two week stint on Saturdays due to TNT’s NHL commitments.

AEW drew 941,000 viewers and a 0.40 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 4th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that despite AEW’s large increases for this week’s episode, they still took a sizeable overall viewership hit with the recent decision to air Dynamite live on the West Coast and Mountain time zones starting with this week’s episode. Meltzer reported that AEW likely will be performing at least around 11% lower than usual for their viewership numbers going forward until the move to TBS next year as a result. Meltzer also reported that AEW’s first hour viewership is also currently expected to generate lower than usual numbers going forward for the time being as well due to the new weekly start time for West Coast and Mountain time zone viewers.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the MLB World Series 2021 Game 2 of Atlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros drew 10,280,000 viewers on FOX, the NBA game of Atlanta Hawks vs. New Orleans Pelicans drew 1,024,000 viewers on ESPN, and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills drew 1,393,000 viewers on Bravo.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 518,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest increase was with their Females 18-34 group at 11.5% higher than this past Saturday’s show. AEW’s sole decrease was with their Males 18-34 group at 5.7% lower than this past Saturday’s show. Meltzer reported that the decrease suffered with AEW’s Males 18-34 group was mainly due to the negative effect of the earlier live start time for their West Coast viewers.

AEW Dynamite started off with round 911,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the ending of the TNT Championship match of Ethan Page vs. Sammy Guevara, the post-match brawl with Scorpio Sky and Inner Circle & Chris Jericho promo segment, and the Bryan Danielson & Eddie Kingston backstage interview segment which gained 102,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline was the MJF, Pinnacle, Sting, & Darby Allin promo & brawl segment, the Britt Baker backstage interview segment, and the bulk of the TNT Championship match which lost 86,000 viewers.


More on AEW Rampage Viewership for October 22nd

The October 22nd episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a sizeable decline in overall viewership and key demographic ratings.

AEW Rampage drew 533,000 viewers and a 0.22 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that week’s show was 9th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s decline for that week’s show was due to stiff sports competition and much lower than usual younger female key demographic and Teenagers viewership, which was down 21.7% and 11.1% respectively. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership for that week’s show was the second lowest ever in Rampage series history.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the MLB Playoffs ALCS Game 6 of Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros drew 5,812,000 viewers on FS1 and the NBA game of Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers drew 2,093,000 viewers on ESPN.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 288,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest increase was with their Females 35-49 group at 33.3% higher than the prior week’s show. AEW’s biggest decrease was with their Males 35-49 group at 12.9% lower than the prior week’s show. In terms of viewership age skews, Meltzer reported that Rampage was the youngest skewing sports show for that week, followed by five NBA games and AEW Dynamite’s show to round out the Top Seven sports shows.

AEW Rampage started off with around 609,000 viewers and had around 487,000 viewers for their second quarter, around 529,000 viewers for their third quarter, and had around 505,000 viewers for their main event quarter featuring the bulk of the Andrade El Idolo vs. PAC match and post-match brawl with Malakai Black & Cody Rhodes.
