Gable Steveson won the NCAA Heavyweight Wrestling National Championship today for the second year in a row.
Steveson, wrestling for the University of Minnesota, defeated Cohlton Schultz of Arizona State University with a score of 6-2.
After the win, Steveson left his shoes on the mat, signifying his retirement from college sports.
Steveson signed with WWE in September, one month after winning an Olympic gold medal, and was drafted to the Raw roster in October. Dave Meltzer previously reported in October that Steveson could officially debut in WWE as early as WrestleMania in a couple of weeks.
In an interview last month, Steveson said, “Right when March ends, I’m picking [WWE] up. I’ll probably head to WrestleMania and do some — I don’t know what from there, but you’ll see.”
Congratulations to #WWERaw‘s @GableSteveson on winning the NCAA Wrestling Championship for a second year in a row!https://t.co/2iQ0etfKPe
