As noted before, Joey Janela stated in a recent interview with Denise Salcedo that he is currently planning to leave AEW once his current contract expires. During the interview, Janela stated that he believes he has had backstage heat within the company ever since injuring Eddie Kingston during a match they had together this past January.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that Janela’s belief of him having backstage heat are true. Those same sources stated that there was a lot of heat on him for Kingston’s injury since it prevented Kingston from traveling for several weeks and caused AEW’s plans for him for television and his Chris Jericho feud to be changed as they waited for him to heal.
Johnson reported that his sources also stated that Janela was also correct in his view that he developed a negative reputation backstage of being someone who was unsafe to work with in the ring. Several other talents reportedly had also been hurt during their matches against him in the company.
AEW officials reportedly currently do not have any plans to use Janela again before his current contract expires in late April.
