AEW: Backstage Fight Suspensions Update, Skye Blue Contract Signing, Warner Bros Discovery

All Out 2022 Backstage Fight Suspensions Update

As noted before, CM Punk, Ace Steel, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks’ Matt and Nick Jackson were involved in a backstage fight incident following AEW’s All Out 2022 event earlier this month. Following the incident, AEW suspended all of them, as well as Brandon Cutler, Michael Nakazawa, Christopher Daniels, and Pat Buck for their involvement in the fight.

Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that Brandon Cutler, Michael Nakazawa, Christopher Daniels, and Pat Buck all had their suspensions recently lifted by the company. Meltzer speculated that the reason likely was due to AEW’s third party investigation came to the conclusion that they were only trying to break up the fight and were not active participants of it.

In regards to CM Punk, Steel, Omega, and the Young Bucks, Meltzer reported that the status of their suspensions and future in the company is currently not known.

It was reported that their sources stated that it is currently not known if Blue’s deal is a full-time one or a tier-type deal. It was also reported that indie promoters who have tried to book her for their events have to ask AEW first for their approval.

Prior to her signing, Blue primarily has been working for AEW’s Dark and Dark Elevation series and has made several appearances on AEW’s Dynamite and Rampage television series.

Warner Bros Discovery CCO Comments on Future of Wrestling on TNT & TBS

Deadline.com held a recent interview with Warner Bros Discovery Chief Content Officer Kathleen Finch. One of the topics discussed included Finch’s thoughts on her plans for the future of wrestling and other television series on TNT and TBS.

“I’ve had some great meetings with agents and production partners to let them know that yes, we’re definitely open for business at TNT, TBS, and at all the brands that make up the WBD US Networks portfolio. We’ve spent the past few months evaluating content, our audience make up, which audience groups we want to grow and what kinds of series we need to do that. The content teams are looking at both scripted and unscripted, and have already put some exciting projects into development. Once the deals are signed we’ll be able to share more, but for now the message we want to send to the production community is that we’re bullish on delivering great slates to the fans of these Top 10 networks.”

In the article, it was reported that TNT officials are “now looking for more cost-effective series that don’t go after A-list movie talent and would complement the tentpole sports/unscripted programming on TNT” and stated that this “could include wrestling-themed shows, as AEW is a major draw on TNT.”
