WWE Crown Jewel 2022 Update

As noted before, Saudi Arabia recently became aware of a potential terrorist attack being planned to take place very soon in their country. In regards to wrestling, WWE is still currently scheduled to hold their Crown Jewel 2022 event in the country this Saturday.

The Associated Press reported that one United States official spoken to described the current situation as being a credible threat and stated that a terror attack on Saudi Arabia could happen “soon or within 48 hours.” Despite the recent warnings, it was reported that no US embassy or consulate in the region have yet to issue any guidance to Americans currently living in the country. It was also reported that Iranian officials have recently denied the allegations of them being involved in this rumored potential attack.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that WWE has been in regular contact with the U.S. State Department ahead of their upcoming Crown Jewel 2022 event in the country. Johnson reported that those within WWE have been recently informed that the area of the rumored attack is currently believed to be nowhere near Riyadh, which is the host city of WWE’s upcoming event. WWE officials reportedly are still going ahead with their plans for this Saturday’s event but are also still closely monitoring the situation. Johnson reported that the situation in Saudi Arabia has become a big topic of conversation backstage within the company.

In regards to WWE’s plans for the weekend, Johnson reported that WWE is currently scheduled to hold a press conference this Friday in Riyadh to promote their upcoming event. WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon and Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque reportedly are among the WWE officials traveling to Saudi Arabia and will be overseeing the event.
