More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for January 11th

The January 11th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership, a large increase in key demographic ratings, and a slight increase in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 967,000 viewers and a 0.33 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 3rd place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large gains from their younger key demographic and older key demographic viewership groups, which were up 34.4% and 19.1% respectively compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the very large gain from their younger female key demographic viewership group, which was up 67.4% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Milwaukee Bucks vs. Atlanta Hawks drew 955,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Alabama vs. Tennessee drew 695,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College basketball game of TCU vs. Texas drew 520,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL game of Nashville Predators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs drew 258,000 viewers on TNT, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City drew 692,000 viewers on Bravo, and Challenge: Ride or Dies drew 558,000 viewers on MTV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 429,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 98,000 viewers (up 15.3%), Females 18-34 had 74,000 viewers (up 67.4%), Males 35-49 had 186,000 viewers (up 33.8%), and Females 35-49 had 70,000 viewers (down 7.9%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 284,000 male viewers and 145,000 female viewers for a split of 66.2% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, one of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 1,087,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 893,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In an interesting note, Meltzer reported that this was the first time that a Dynamite show managed to draw more overall viewers than all of the NBA games on the same night during this current NBA season.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 0.2% in overall viewership and down 15% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 6% compared to the same week last year.

  • 1Q – 1,087,000 overall viewers and 442,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Adam Page match)
  • 2Q – 959,000 overall viewers and 419,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Moxley vs. Page match and the Adam Cole promo segment)
  • 3Q – 993,000 overall viewers and 455,000 key demo viewers (Jack Perry & HOOK vs. Big Bill & Lee Moriarty match and the Orange Cassidy, Danhausen, Best Friends & Paul Walter Hauser backstage segment)
  • 4Q – 940,000 overall viewers and 432,000 key demo viewers (MJF promo segment with Konosuke Takeshita and the start of the Takeshita vs. Bryan Danielson match)
  • 5Q – 981,000 overall viewers and 445,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Takeshita vs. Danielson match and the Juice Robinson backstage promo segment)
  • 6Q – 976,000 overall viewers and 418,000 key demo viewers (Saraya & Toni Storm vs. Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter match and post-match with Hikaru Shida and the Eddie Kingston & Ortiz backstage promo segment)
  • 7Q – 893,000 overall viewers and 405,000 key demo viewers (Jericho Appreciation Society, Ricky Starks, & Action Andretti promo segment)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for January 6th

The January 6th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and a small increase in key demographic ratings but suffered a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW Rampage drew 551,000 viewers and a 0.15 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that week’s show was 30th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very large gains from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was up 52.9% compared to the prior week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large gains from their older key demographic and Over 50 demographic viewership groups, which were up 11.8% and 55.6% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This offset the large decline from their Teenagers demographic viewership group, which was down 16.7% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Miami Heat vs. Phoenix Suns drew 1,112,000 viewers on ESPN, Gold Rush Special drew 879,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, On Patrol Live drew 846,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 601,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 196,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 117,000 male viewers and 79,000 female viewers for a split of 59.7% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage show and Dynamite show did not rank in the Top 10 youngest skewing sports show for the week.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 6.3% in overall viewership and down 36.4% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 8.3% compared to the same week last year.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 622,000 overall viewers and 217,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Bryan Danielson & Jon Moxley vs. Top Flight match)
  • 2Q – 562,000 overall viewers and 211,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Danielson & Moxley vs. Top Flight match, the Hangman Adam Page backstage segment, and the bulk of the Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter vs. The Renegade Twins match)
  • 3Q – 536,000 overall viewers and 201,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Baker & Hayter vs. Renegade Twins match, the House of Black video promo, the Perro Peligroso vs. Sonico match, and the Darby Allin & The Kingdom video promo segment)
  • 4Q – 486,000 overall viewers and 173,000 key demo viewers (TNT Championship match of Mike Bennett vs. Allin (c))

More on AEW Battle of the Belts V Viewership for January 6th

AEW’s Battle of the Belts V special on January 6th drew 409,000 viewers, a 0.11 key demographic rating, and a #58th key demographic rating on TNT.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that had 142,000 key demographic viewers for their Battle of the Belts V special. This reportedly was up 10% compared to this past October’s Battle of the Belts IV key demographic viewership.
