NXT Vengeance Day 2023 Post-Show Media Scrum: New Day, Dijak Injury Update, Indies, Grayson Waller

Shawn Michaels held a post-show press conference following Saturday’s NXT Vengeance Day 2023 event in Charlotte, North Carolina to discuss a variety of wrestling-related topics.

Some of the topics discussed included Michaels stating that he felt that NXT’s Vengeance Day 2023 show was “absolutely phenomenal” and NXT’s roster was overjoyed working in front of a large crowd in Charlotte.

On the topic of New Day’s current status in NXT following their NXT Tag Team Championship loss, Michaels stated that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods seemed to be open to the idea of returning to NXT if their main roster schedule allows it. Michaels stated that he hopes New Day will be able to do so in the future.

On the topic of potential injuries from the event, Michaels stated that everyone is feeling good after the event. Michaels also stated that Dijak ended up not suffering a broken finger injury after an X-ray scan and his finger was being set back in place.

In regards to the recent reports and rumors of NXT talent being allowed to work in the indies following Ivy Nile being booked for an upcoming event for Reality of Wrestling, Michaels stated:

“As of right now, that was honestly a one-shot deal. Booker has obviously been very good to us here. It was something that he asked and we obviously wanted to help him out with that. As of right now, there is no talk of any of that, to my knowledge. Right now, that was just us helping Booker out with the show and doing what we could to see if we could help. Right now, to the best of my knowledge, it is just a one-shot deal for now.”

On the topic of NXT potentially holding weekly television tapings outside of WWE’s Performance Center, Michaels stated this is something that they are hoping to do one day, especially if they can manage to generate the same results as Saturday’s show in terms of live crowd and reaction. In regards to house show events, Michaels stated that he believes it will be some time before NXT will start holding house show events outside of Florida.

During the post-show media scrum, a storyline angle took place involving Grayon Waller interrupting and confronting Michaels about “not being his guy.” Michaels responded stating that this was in relation to an incident that happen backstage in the gorilla position between the two. Micheals also stated that while he loves working with Waller, he is not that different in real life compared to his on-screen character.

On the topic of Kiana James and Fallon Henley winning the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship, Michaels praised their chemistry as a new team and the improvement in their work during their time in NXT. Michaels also stated that the decision to put them together as a team was due to the chemistry they had working against each other and NXT wanting to explore putting them together as a team and seeing how it would work.

Michaels also praised former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter and Katana Chance for being one of the most consistently performing tag team in the entire WWE.
