AEW Revolution 2023 Media Call: House Show Tour Plans, ROH, Iron Man Match, All Elite Women, Eddie Kingston

AEW CEO Tony Khan held a media call on Thursday to promote this Sunday’s AEW Revolution 2023 event in San Fransisco, California.

Some of the topics discussed included Khan stating that he is not able to discuss for legal reasons if AEW’s current television deal with Warner Bros Discovery contains a one year option that would keep AEW shows on TBS and TNT through 2024.

On the topic of AEW’s upcoming house show tours, Khan stated that they are currently slowly building up their hour tours division so that they can figure out the best way to handle their plans for these tours going forward. Khan stated that AEW has a big group of talent who have been vocal about their interest in working house show type events in the company.

On the topic of AEW’s philosophy for the structure of their weekly Dynamite shows, Khan said the current mentality is to feature their prominent stories and try to plot them out in a way that would generate good television ratings for shows. Khan also stated that this has been a learning process and they look at what had worked the week before and try to learn from it for future shows.

On the topic of ROH’s involvement in AEW shows, Khan stated that he has been scaling back ROH’s presence on AEW programming and now mostly keeps matches for ROH titles for their Dark Elevation and Dark shows instead of Dynamite and Rampage shows. Khan also stated that now that ROH has their own show, he can place ROH title matches there going forward.

On the topic of the scheduled AEW Women’s Championship match for Revolution 2023, Khan praised Jamie Hayter’s growth in the company since her debut in 2019 and for being an important star and champion. Khan also stated that he thinks the upcoming match between Hayter, Ruby Soho, and Saraya will be great at the event.

On the topic of if the AEW World Championship Iron Man match has impacted the booking for the remainder of Revolution 2023’s card, Khan stated that they have never allocated this much time before to a single pay-per-view match. Khan also stated that he thinks the match itself will be a great main event for the show and they still have plenty of time left for what he feels will be a great undercard. Khan also stated that the length of the Iron Man match was the reason why he decided to do a smaller card for Revolution 2023 and why the Face of the Revolution Ladder match took place on Dynamite instead.

On the topic of AEW’s trademark for “All Elite Women,” Khan stated:

“I would love to have that show be a show that gets picked up. It is an idea I had for a show and something I would love to do, All Elite Women, and that’s why I filed the trademark, I think it’s a good idea. We have a great women’s roster and I would love to utilize them as much as possible. Anytime we can develop more programming to feature our roster, it’s something that is a great opportunity for the company and the wrestlers. In the case of the women’s locker room, there are a number of really deserving talents and people we feature on TV regularly and people I’d like to feature more. That was the idea behind All Elite Women that’s still an idea and I think it would be a great thing if it ever gets picked up.”

On the topic of Eddie Kingston’s recent backstage segment involving him quitting AEW, Khan stated:

“I have talked to Eddie since [Wednesday], and I would encourage people to stay tuned to pro wrestling. Stay tuned to AEW and other forms of pro wrestling. Of course, there are a lot of exciting things happening in the sport, in AEW, and also out metaverse of pro wrestling, including New Japan and the launch of the new Ring of Honor. A lot of exciting things happening. I have had the chance to talk to Eddie about that and I say stay tuned to the wrestling business and you’ll see what happens next.”

On the topic of if any additional matches will be added to the card of Revolution 2023, Khan stated that Jungle Boy vs. Christian Cage could be added but he believes the card will stay at eight matches in total due to the situation with the 60 minute Iron Man match.
