AEW Reportedly Has Tentative Date Set for CM Punk’s Return

As noted before, CM Punk has been out of action for AEW since this past September due to his ongoing suspension over his involvement in a backstage fight at this past September’s All Out 2022 event. Punk and AEW officials recently had been working on a reconciliation plan for Punk’s potential return to the company. Punk also had been in talks over his willingness and scenarios for a potential return to the company.

AEW recently announced that they will be returning to Chicago, Illinois on June 21st for the go-home Dynamite and Rampage shows for their Forbidden Door 2 event. It was also announced that tickets for this upcoming set of shows will officially go on sale on April 21st.

Fightful Select reported that prior to AEW’s announcement of the go-home show for Forbidden Door 2 taking place in Chicago, they had been informed by their sources that the June 21st Dynamite show would be both interesting and a date to look out for.

It was reported that as of Thursday, their sources stated that AEW officials had tentative plans in place for CM Punk to make his official return to the company at that show or at the very least around it. AEW officials reportedly also had held talks regarding the idea of announcing Punk’s official return ahead of time and possibly around the time of Warner Bros Discovery upcoming Upfronts, which take place on May 17th.

Those spoken to reportedly also confirmed an earlier report stating that Punk has been hoping to work against with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks but there has yet to be any contact between the two sides. Punk reportedly has been trying to push for a meeting between everyone for some time but it is currently not known if any progress had been made for these meetings. It was also reported that both the Young Bucks and Omega are currently involved in talks for a potential new contract in AEW.

Besides Omega and the Young Bucks, a meeting between Punk and Chris Jericho reportedly has been planned to take place at some point. This meeting reportedly would be to determine if the two working together again in AEW is a possibility.

In regards to AEW’s upcoming third weekly television show, it was reported that their sources stated that their has been more traction within WBD about an impending announcement of this upcoming show taking place weekly on Saturday and in a prime time slot. It was also reported that AEW officials are considering for this show to act as a “soft” roster split to accommodate talent who want to stay separate from the Punk and Elite drama. Talent reportedly have not been informed about this potential plan for the new show nor about Punk’s possible impending return.
