AEW: Rey Fenix Given Time Off to Heal Injuries, All Out 2023 Update, Matt Hardy on Firm Deletion Match

Rey Fenix Reportedly Given Time Off to Heal from Injuries

Rey Fenix reportedly was recently given time off by AEW to heal from several unknown injuries, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that AEW officials had granted Fenix some time off due to him being in a “banged up” shape following his match with Penta El Zero Miedo against Powerhouse Hobbs & QT Marshall for the ROH World Tag Team Championship match at AEW’s Battle of the Belts VI show earlier this month.

The nature of Fenix’s injuries nor a potential timetable for his return was given.

AEW All Out 2023 Status Update

As noted before, AEW will be holding an AEW branded All In event on August 27th at the Wembley Stadium in London, England. The status for this year’s All Out event was rumored to be in doubt due to this upcoming event taking place very close to the usual traditional date for All Out.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that several people within AEW had privately told others on social media that this year’s All Out event will be taking place the week following AEW’s All In event.

Meltzer reported that this has yet to be confirmed by his sources within the company and AEW officials have been quiet about the status of this year’s All Out event when asked about it.

Matt Hardy Comments on Upcoming Firm Deletion Match & Future of Hardy Party Group

A recent episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast featured co-host Matt Hardy’s thoughts on his upcoming The Firm Deletion match and the future of his Hardy Party group.

“We already have an idea of a way to take the current story once it ends with The Firm. I think it’s going to make a lot of people that have enjoyed our story through and through happy. We’re calling this match The Firm Deletion. I think it really is going to be the deletion of The Firm when it’s all said and done. There are a couple of ideas; obviously, Jeff is back, so we’re going to be delving into the tag team scene and we’re going to be looking to try and find our way back up the mountain to get another shot at the AEW World Tag Team Titles, and we do have a couple of ideas about directions that we could go out of that.

There’s going to be a little twist, I think, where the Hardy Party he’s going to be evolving and changing a little bit. I think it’s going to be a small handful of guys that are still going to be associated with myself and Jeff. Maybe the Hardy Party is our faction’s name.”

Hardy also gave a preview of what fans can expect for the match once it takes place at the Hardy Compound.

“It’s gonna be a lot of fun to go back to the Hardy Compound. I’m really excited to take four-man teams, eight people altogether, and have a match on the Hardy Compound. That’s something we’ve never done before. We did a lot of stuff with Decay, where there were six people that were interacting with one another. Obviously, that’d be myself, Jeff, and Queen Rebecca vs. Abyss, Crazzy Steve, and Rosemary. Now, to have eight people out there. The Hardy Compound always promises to have cameos. It always has special guest appearances. I’m excited for this one because I feel like it’s going to be a little different than all the other ones. There’s a lot of guys involved, but it’s also going to be based in more of an AEW Universe, I feel, than any other cinematic match has been because I get the fact that they are a more sports-centric type of promotion. So we’re gonna have some fun, entertaining moments. There’s going to be a lot of great physicality. It’s going to be pretty brutal in many ways, a lot of spots that are going to take your breath away, but it’s also going to be based in reality, which I think is going to be very good for the AEW audience.

I think you’re going to see all of the classic House Hardy family members there during this match. You’ll get to see the baby Hardy Boyz. You’re going to get to see Queen Rebecca. I’m sure you’ll see Senor Benjamin, and I imagine there’ll also be a cameo by Gothic Baby [Matt’s daughter], so it’s going to be a lot of fun. Let me say this, too, Jon. Speaking of Stokely, King Maxel has got his Swanton down. He’s about ready to Maxton Stokely, too. Hopefully, he gets in his way. He’ll Maxton his ass.

I don’t think [Stokely Hathaway] realized that King Maxel was still undefeated. He’s 3-0. So, we’ll see. Maybe we can build a match within ‘The Firm Deletion’ match.”
