More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for June 14

The June 14th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a small decline in key demographic ratings but gained a slight increase in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 832,000 viewers and a 0.30 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 3rd place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the reason for AEW’s declines this week was due to stiff sports competition from MLB and Vanderpump Rules airing an additional extra episode for their current season. Another reason reportedly was due to the declines in all of AEW’s demographic viewership groups, which was down 17.6% in Teenagers viewership, down 7.4% in younger key demographic viewership, down 11.8% in older key demographic viewership, and down 2.8% in Over 50 viewership compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that this week’s show was doing well in terms of viewership numbers until the 9:15PM quarter and then fell hard throughout the remainder of the show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the MLB game of New York Yankees vs. New York Mets drew 1,903,000 viewers on ESPN, Vanderpump Rules drew 1,134,000 viewers on Bravo, Real Housewives of Orange County drew 788,000 viewers on Bravo, Sistas Series drew 1,014,000 viewers on BET, Expedition Unknown drew 956,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Dr. Pimple Popper drew 869,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 274,000 male viewers (down 6.5%) and 118,000 female viewers (down 16.9%) for a split of 69.9% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 918,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 699,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 9.3% in overall viewership and up 7.4% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 64.5% compared to the same week last year.

AEW Dynamite quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 918,000 overall viewers and 415,000 key demo viewers (First half of the AEW World Championship Eliminator match of Adam Cole vs. MJF)
  • 2Q – 889,000 overall viewers and 429,000 key demo viewers (Second half of the AEW World Championship Eliminator match)
  • 3Q – 890,000 overall viewers and 427,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the AEW World Championship Eliminator match and post-match angle, the CM Punk video promo segment, and the start of the Sammy Guevara & Darby Allin promo segment)
  • 4Q – 865,000 overall viewers and N/A key demo viewers (Bulk of the Guevara & Allin promo segment with Chris Jericho & Sting, the SANADA video promo segment, and the start of the Keith Lee, Orange Cassidy, Sting, & Allin vs. Mogul Embassy 8-Man Tag Team match)
  • 5Q – 857,000 overall viewers and 414,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Lee, Cassidy, Sting, & Allin vs. Mogul Embassy match, the Gunns backstage interview segment, and the bulk of the TNT Championship match of Jake Hager vs. Wardlow (c))
  • 6Q – 792,000 overall viewers and 353,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the TNT Championship and post-match angle with Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, & Arn Anderson, the Hiroshi Tanahashi video promo segment, the MJF backstage interview segment, the Cassidy, Zack Sabre Jr., & Daniel Garcia backstage segment, and the start of the AEW Women’s World Championship match of Skye Blue vs. Toni Storm (c))

  • 8Q – 699,000 overall viewers and 325,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Elite vs. BCC Trios match & post-match brawl with Eddie Kingston, Konosuke Takeshita, Kenny Omega, & Will Ospreay)

In regards to AEW’s 4th quarter hour, the key demographic viewership for this quarter was not given by Meltzer for reasons not known.


More on AEW Rampage Viewership for June 9th

The June 9th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a slight decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 291,000 viewers and a 0.10 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 27th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to stiff sports competition from the 2023 NBA Finals and the large declines from their male key demographic viewership and Over 50 viewership groups, which were down 30.1% and 23.5% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the large gain from their female key demographic viewership group, which was up 10.4% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 NBA Finals Game 4 of Denver Nuggets vs. Miami Heat drew 10,414,000 viewers on ABC, the 2023 College Baseball Super Regionals game of Oral Roberts vs. Oregon drew 408,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2023 College Baseball Super Regionals game of South Carolina vs. Florida drew 136,000 viewers on ESPNU, the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships drew 176,000 viewers on ESPN2, On Patrol Live drew 887,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, Gold Rush White Water drew 532,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, House Hunters drew 843,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 408,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 125,000 viewers Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 72,000 male viewers (down 30.1%) and 53,000 female viewers (up 10.4%) for a split of 57.6% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage did not rank in the youngest skewing sports shows for the week while that week’s Dynamite was the fourth youngest skewing sports show, behind one UFC event and two soccer games.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 38.9% in overall viewership and down 40.1% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 50% compared to the same week last year. Meltzer reported that the reason for the very large declines was due to last year’s show also went head-to-head against Game 4 of the 2022 NBA Finals.

  • 2Q – 293,000 overall viewers and 129,000 key demo viewers (QTV video segment, the Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Caleb Crush match, the Wardlow & Arn Anderson backstage interview segment, and the bulk of The Acclaimed Billy Gunn vs. Spanish Announce Project Trios match)
  • 3Q – 285,000 overall viewers and 128,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Acclaimed & Gunn vs. SAP Trios match and the Jeff & Karen Jarrett, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Satnam Singh, Aubrey Edwards, & Mark Briscoe promo segment)
