More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for June 21

The June 21st episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and a small increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 902,000 viewers and a 0.33 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 2nd place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the lack of competition and the large increase from their older key demographic viewership group, which the exact percentage increase was not given by Meltzer. This reportedly offset the decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 4% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s key demographic viewership was its highest since their February 22nd show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 College World Series game of LSU vs. Wake Forest drew 1,894,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB simulcast games of Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Los Angeles Angels and San Diego vs. San Francisco drew 280,000 on MLB Network, Real Housewives of Orange County drew 757,000 viewers on Bravo, Sistas Series drew 981,000 viewers on BET, Expedition Unknown drew 1,070,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Dr. Pimple Popper drew 1,034,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 436,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 110,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 59,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 199,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 68,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 309,000 male viewers (up 12.8%) and 118,000 female viewers (up 7.6%) for a split of 70.9% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 976,000 viewers for their second quarter while their quarter low was at 804,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 2.7% in overall viewership and up 6.1% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 25.2% compared to the same week last year.

  • 2Q – 976,000 overall viewers and 464,000 key demo viewers (Jeff Jarrett vs. Mark Briscoe Concessions Stand Brawl match and the Blackpool Combat Club, Don Callis, & Konosuke Takeshita backstage promo segment)
  • 3Q – 926,000 overall viewers and 418,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Chris Jericho, Minoru Suzuki, & Sammy Guevara vs. Darius Martin, AR Fox, & Action Andretti Trios match)
  • 4Q – 965,000 overall viewers and 460,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Jericho, Suzuki, & Guevara vs. Martin, AR Fox, & Andretti match and post-match angle with Sting & Darby Allin, the Tony Schiavone & RJ City backstage segment, and the Elite & Eddie Kingston backstage promo segment)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for June 16

The June 16th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership, a large increase in key demographic rankings, and a small increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 423,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 12th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very large increases from their older key demographic viewership and Over 50 viewership groups, which were up 40.2% and 53.8% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to Rampage’s fourth quarter hour managed to increase in viewership which has rarely happened for a Rampage show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 College World Series game of Virginia vs. Florida drew 1,173,000 viewers on ESPN, Pro Fighters League event drew 409,000 viewers on ESPN, On Patrol Live drew 794,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, Gold Rush F. Dodge Special drew 429,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, House Hunters drew 901,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV, and 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 477,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 164,000 viewers Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 98,000 male viewers (up 36.1%) and 66,000 female viewers (up 24.5%) for a split of 59.8% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage did not rank in the youngest skewing sports shows for the week while that week’s Collision was the youngest and Dynamite was the third youngest skewing sports show, behind Collision and one UFC event.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 16.3% in overall viewership and up 5.8% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 33.3% compared to the same week last year.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 455,000 overall viewers and 184,000 key demo viewers (CHAOS vs. United Empire Trios match)
  • 2Q – 395,000 overall viewers and 151,000 key demo viewers (Taya Valkyrie vs. Trish Adore match, the Hardys, Isiah Kassidy, & Ethan Page backstage interview segment, and the bulk of the Jeff Jarrett, Karen Jarrett, & Jay Lethal vs. Mark Briscoe, Papa Briscoe, & Aubrey Edwards Mixed Tag Team match)
  • 3Q – 406,000 overall viewers and 154,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Mixed Tag Team match, the Taya Valkyrie & Kris Statlander backstage segment, and the Don Callis & Konosuke Takeshita backstage promo segment)
  • 4Q – 436,000 overall viewers and 165,000 key demo viewers (Takeshita vs. Bandido)

More on AEW Collision Viewership for June 17

The June 17th episode of AEW Collision drew 816,000 viewers, a 0.33 key demographic rating, and a #3 key demographic ranking on TNT. This past week’s show was notable for being the debut show of Collision.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Collision’s debut numbers were around the level of an average episode of Dynamite for some comparisons. Meltzer reported that when compared to Dynamite’s June 14th show, Collision’s debut show was slightly lower in overall viewership but managed to top Dynamite in key demographic ratings. Meltzer reported that Collision’s debut show taking place shortly after the end of this year’s NBA and NHL playoffs on TNT was not a simple coincidence but instead something that Warner Bros Discovery had actually planned when it came to the decision for the show’s debut date. Meltzer reported that Collision’s debut show was the youngest skewing wrestling show so far for this year with a median age of 45 years old.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the MLB game of Tampa Bay Rays vs. San Diego Padres drew 1,078,000 viewers on FOX, the 2023 College World Series game of Tennessee vs. LSU drew 1,608,000 viewers on EPSN, UFC Fight Night Prelims drew 410,000 viewers on ESPN2, On Patrol Live drew 797,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, On Patrol First Shift drew 474,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, Vacation House Rules drew 988,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV, and Ancient Aliens drew 459,000 viewers on History Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 432,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 125,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 47,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 186,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 74,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 311,000 male viewers and 121,000 female viewers for a split of 72% in favor of males.
