More on WWE’s Current Efforts & Plans to Streamline Their Championship Titles

As noted before, WWE recently debuted a new World Heavyweight Championship belt for their RAW brand, a new WWE Universal Championship belt for Roman Reigns for their SmackDown brand, and a new Women’s Championship belt for Asuka for their SmackDown brand.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated these new belts are part of WWE’s current plans and efforts to streamline their championships.

In regards to Asuka being presented with a new Women’s Championship belt, one source spoken to confirmed that this was done in order to clean up the current situation of the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships being on separate brands following last month’s WWE Draft. This same source reportedly also stated that the reason why Asuka’s new championship belt looks similar in design to Roman Reigns’ new belt was due to WWE officials wanting it to be portrayed as being on an even plane in terms of status.

In regards to Rhea Ripley’s current SmackDown Women’s Championship belt, it was reported that WWE officials are currently planning to give Ripley a new belt within the near future that will also be given a name change or new physical appearance.

In regards to Roman Reigns’ WWE Universal Championships being combined into a new belt, one source spoken to reportedly stated that the WWE and Universal Championship lineage and title histories are still technically considered to be separate histories within the company for this new belt. This same source reportedly stated that they currently believe that the WWE title’s history will be continued for the new belt once Reigns loses the championship.

In regards to WWE’s current plans to unify their WWE Women’s Tag Team and NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships, it was reported that those within NXT had been confused at the time over why WWE created a separate NXT Women’s Tag Team titles in the first place. Those spoken to reportedly stated that WWE officials plans to unify the two titles go has far back as this past April. It was reported that WWE officials currently have plans for the upcoming unified WWE Women’s Tag Team titles to appear on NXT programming whenever needed similar to their original plans for the belts. It was also reported that those spoken to stated that this titles unification would have happened much sooner if it was not for the recent unfortunate injuries within WWE’s Women’s Tag Team division.

In regards to WWE still referring to Reigns’ new WWE Universal title as an undisputed title despite Seth Rollins being the current World champion, it was reported that this issue has been a source of frustration recently within the company. This similar issue reportedly also arose due to Asuka’s new Women’s Championship belt also has the “undisputed” word for its name plate. One high level WWE official spoken to reportedly stated “that’s admittedly confusing. I don’t know why there is an insistence on doing that, and a lot of people have brought that up and it’s been dismissed.”
