Update on WWE’s Current Plans for SummerSlam 2023’s Card

As noted before, WWE currently has plans in place for six matches and tentative plans for one other match for their upcoming SummerSlam 2023 event on August 5th at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that WWE officials currently have plans in place for another two matches for this year’s card, bringing the total confirmed matches to eight as of this week.

In regards to WWE’s current plans for a “showcase match” for Logan Paul at the event, Meltzer reported that WWE officials recently made the decision for Ricochet to be Paul’s official opponent for this match.

In regards to the other new match, Meltzer reported that WWE officials recently made the decision for this new match to be Raquel Rodriguez vs. Rhea Ripley for Ripley’s WWE Women’s World Championship.

Meltzer reported that those spoken to stated that WWE officials currently have plans for other high profile matches for SummerSlam but it is possible that these matches could be moved at the last minute to either the SmackDown go-home show or the RAW post-PPV show instead. Meltzer reported that this was what WWE did for this past Saturday’s Money in the Bank 2023 event by having the WWE Women’s Championship and Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship matches take place on the go-home SmackDown show instead of at the event itself.
