CM Punk & Jack Perry Reportedly Involved in Backstage Argument at Recent Collision Show

As noted before, CM Punk gave an unplanned shoot promo directed towards Hangman Adam Page following this past Saturday’s AEW Collision show in Greensboro, North Carolina. Besides Page, several AEW talents were recently sent home from Collision tapings due to backstage issues believed to be related to CM Punk.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that CM Punk was also involved in another backstage incident involving Jack Perry at a recent Collision show.

It was reported that this backstage incident revolved around a disagreement between Perry and AEW production officials, AEW doctors, and Tony Schiavone over plans for the filming of a segment. This reportedly involved Perry wanting to use real glass for a spot for his pre-taped segment which resulted in immediate backlash from others over the idea. It was reported that it is currently not known if the spot rejection was due to others feeling that it was too dangerous or if they did not want to risk Perry’s safety for a scheduled booking date afterwards. It was reported that this incident took place shortly prior to AEW enacting their new safety protocols for talent.

In regards to CM Punk, those spoken to from Punk’s side stated that Punk claimed that he was asked to intervene and calmly told Perry that they don’t do those type of things on Saturdays (Collision). Punk reportedly also told Perry that if he does not like that, then he could stay on Wednesdays (Dynamite). Punk also claimed that Perry was throwing a temper tantrum over the spot not being cleared.

Punk also claimed that he felt Perry only wanted to do the spot as a way of avoiding having to come to work next week which he saw as a big problem in the company.

The Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported that his sources clarified some details from Fightful’s report. Alvarez reported that those spoken to stated that Perry had a scheduled vacation planned that was coming up and wanted to do a pre-tape backstage angle involving car as a way to write him off of AEW television for that week. Punk reportedly got involved and told Perry that he could not do that spot since he wanted to include breaking real glass and felt that it was too dangerous to do. Punk reportedly also told Perry that they cared for his safety.

Alvarez reported that the portion of Fightful’s report involving Punk claiming that Perry wanted to do this just to get out of work for a week did not actually happen.
