More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for August 9th

The August 9th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 846,000 viewers and a 0.29 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 1st place.

Detailed viewership and key demographic breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason fro AEW’s declines this week was due to the small decline in their overall key demographic viewership, which was down 8.1% compared to last week’s Dynamite 200th show, and their lead-in programming Big Bang Theory generating its lowest key demographic rating to date since AEW moved to TBS at a 0.14. Big Bang Theory reportedly also drew fewer overall viewers than Dynamite at 774,000 viewers for their show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, Sista Series drew 1,076,000 viewers on BET and Real Housewives of Orange County drew 726,000 viewers on Bravo.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 373,000 viewers.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 892,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 790,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 13% in overall viewership and down 13.9% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership percentage compared to the same week last year was not stated.

  • 1Q – 892,000 overall viewers and 354,000 key demo viewers (Jericho Appreciation Society Mandatory Meeting segment)
  • 2Q – 839,000 overall viewers and 339,000 key demo viewers (Jericho & Don Callis backstage segment and The Hardys vs. The Young Bucks tag team match)
  • 3Q – 805,000 overall viewers and 347,000 key demo viewers (Young Bucks & FTR promo segment, the Hikaru Shida video segment, the Women’s tournament video segment, the MJF & Adam Cole video segment, and the Blackpool Combat Club backstage promo segment)
  • 4Q – 861,000 overall viewers and 371,000 key demo viewers (FTW Championship match of Rob Van Dam vs. Jack Perry (c) and the Lucha Bros backstage interview segment)
  • 5Q – 889,000 overall viewers and 425,000 key demo viewers (MJF & Adam Cole promo segment with Roderick Strong & The Kingdom)
  • 6Q – 844,000 overall viewers and 399,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs. The Lucha Bros tag team match)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for August 4th

The August 4th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a small increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 434,000 viewers and a 0.14 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 14th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very large gains from their younger female key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which was up 190.9% and 94.1% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the declines from their younger male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which was down 7.5% and 59% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that Rampage’s key demographic viewership was its highest since the April 7th show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, Friends drew 401,000 viewers on TBS, Love After Lockup drew 415,000 viewers on WETV, and On Patrol Live drew 856,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 181,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 37,000 viewers (down 7.5%), Females 18-34 had 32,000 viewers (up 190.9%), AEW’s Males 35-49 had 97,000 viewers (94.1%), and Females 18-35 had 16,000 viewers (down 59%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 134,000 male viewers and 48,000 female viewers for a split of 74% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage was the fifteenth youngest skewing sports shows for the week while that week’s Dynamite show was the fifth youngest and Collision was the seventeenth youngest.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 7.3% in overall viewership and down 7.2% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 9.5% compared to the same week last year.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 456,000 overall viewers and 182,000 key demo viewers (Keith Lee & The Hardys vs. Kip Sabian, The Butcher, & The Blade Trios match and the Adam Cole & The Kingdom ROH video segment)
  • 2Q – 431,000 overall viewers and 178,000 key demo viewers (The Young Bucks & The Hardys backstage segment, the Anna Jay vs. Skye Blue match, the Kris Statlander backstage interview segment, and the PAC injury announcement segment)
  • 3Q – 412,000 overall viewers and 181,000 key demo viewers (Swerve Strickland & AR Fox vs. Logan Cruz & Tyshaun Perez, the QTV video segment, the Big Bill & Brian Cage backstage interview segment, and the start of the Parking Lot Brawl match of Blackpool Combat Club vs. Best Friends)
  • 4Q – 439,000 overall viewers and 184,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Parking Lot Brawl match)

More on AEW Collision Viewership for August 5th

The August 5th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership, key demographic ratings, and key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 417,000 viewers and a 0.13 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 16th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines that week was due to a combo of very stiff sports competition from UFC and wrestling competition from WWE’s SummerSlam 2023 event that night. Another reason reportedly was due to the large declines from their younger male key demographic viewership, older male key demographic viewership, and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 47.5%, 38.1%, and 75.6% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This offset the gains from their younger female key demographic viewership group, which was up 16.7% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the UFC Fight Night drew 1,035,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB game of Los Angeles vs. San Diego Padres drew 553,000 viewers on FS1, On Patrol Live drew 925,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and Deadpool drew 401,000 viewers on FX.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 164,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 53,000 viewers (down 47.5%), Females 18-34 had 28,000 viewers (up 16.7%), Males 35-49 had 91,000 viewers (down 38.1%), and Females 35-49 had 20,000 viewers (down 75.6%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 144,000 male viewers and 48,000 female viewers for a split of 72.6% in favor of males.

AEW Collision quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 427,000 overall viewers and 151,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the AEW World Tag Team Championship match of Big Bill & Brian Cage vs. FTR (c))

  • 3Q – 388,000 overall viewers and 154,000 key demo viewers (TBS Championship match of Mercedes Martinez vs. Kris Statlander (c) and post-match brawl with Diamante & Willow Nightingale and the Toni Storm backstage interview segment)
  • 4Q – 391,000 overall viewers and 156,000 key demo viewers (Samoa Joe vs. Serpentico match & post-match promo by Joe, the Andrade El Idolo video segment, The Acclaimed backstage interview segment, and the start of the AEW Trios Championship match of Darius Martin, Action Andretti, & Lee Johnson vs. House of Black (c))
  • 5Q – 386,000 overall viewers and 151,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the AEW Trios Championship match, the Powerhouse Hobbs, QT Marshall, & Harley Cameron backstage segment,
