In regards to the new matches, the first new match announced is an AEW International Championship match of Rey Fenix vs. Jon Moxley (c).

This match was setup following Moxley defeating Big Bill to retain his AEW International title. Following the match, a brawl broke out involving Big Bill, Ricky Starks, and the Blackpool Combat Club minus Wheeler Yuta. The second new match announced is a Tag Team match of Darby Allin & Nick Wayne vs. Christian Cage & Luchasaurus.

This match was setup following a promo segment by Christian Cage. After Darby Allin & Nick Wayne were victorious over Matt Menard & Angelo Parker in a tag team match on the show, Cage grabbed a microphone and started talking about how he has been checking out Wayne’s mom on Instagram. Cage also stated that he is still pissed off that all anyone talks about is Allin and Sting’s win over his team at AEW All In and claimed that it only happened due to him not having his regular tag team partner for that match. Cage then issued a tag team match challenge between Allin & Sting and himself & Luchasaurus for next week’s Grand Slam 2023 event. Afterwards, AEW commentator Excalibur announced that this match was made official for Grand Slam 2023.

The first newly updated match is an AEW Women’s World Championship match of Toni Storm vs. Saraya (c).

This match was setup following Storm defeating Nyla Rose, Hikaru Shida, and Britt Baker in a Four-way #1 Contender match for the AEW Women’s title. The finish to this match involved Shida hitting The Kitana to Rose which led to Baker catching Shida by surprise with a Curb Stomp. This led to Storm sneaking up from behind and rolling up Baker for the pinfall victory.

This match was setup following Joe defeating Roderick Strong in the Finals of the AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament. Following the match, Joe gave a promo calling out MJF stating that his prophecy has come true and is coming into MJF’s backyard to come for him, beat him up, and take everything MJF has. Joe then called MJF a kid again and stated again that he will take everything from MJF. Following Strong being stretchered out after complaining about his neck once he saw Adam Cole coming out to check on him, Joe ambushed Cole on the stage and locked in a Coquina Clutch and screamed into the camera that he was going to take everything from MJF.

During an in-ring promo segment on the show involving Callis and Konosuke Takeshita, Callis shouted out all of the Japanese wrestling legends that he claims that Takeshita is already better than. Callis stated that when you beat Kenny Omega once that makes you the ace but when you beat him twice in seven days, they call you “The Alpha.” This led to a graphic of “The Alpha” being shown on the big screen and streamers coming down from the rafters in celebration.

Callis called out Chris Jericho for being a fake Alpha and bad mouthed Omega and unveiled his newest painting revealing Kota Ibushi as the next target of the Don Callis Family. Callis then stated that they will destroy Ibushi and spill his blood in the ring while Omega is at home and helpless like the pathetic “cuck” that he is. Callis then stabbed a screwdriver into the painting where Ibushi’s head was and presented Takeshita with a gift of flowers, which Takeshita threw into the face of Tony Schiavone.
