As noted before, AEW terminated CM Punk’s contract with cause this past September following their investigation into his backstage incident with Jack Perry at their All In event this past August. The general backstage feeling over the potential of CM Punk returning to WWE has been more negative than positive within the company.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that CM Punk and WWE officials have held recent talks regarding a potential return for Punk to the company the future.
Meltzer reported that those within WWE stated that no deal has been completed while those close to Punk stated that he had told them that his current intention is to return to WWE and the two sides are currently in talks over it.
Meltzer speculated that if a deal were to be reached, the most ideal time for Punk’s return would be at this November’s Survivor Series 2023 event due to it taking place in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Punk recently teased at this being the date for his potential return based on comments he made on commentary during a MMA event for Cage Fury Fighting this past Septemner teasing he has a couple of months of free time available.
