I had the honor and privilege of being able to lead that this week to really kick off the season but more than that, I think more exciting personally was the reason I was on the field to begin with was I have the dubious distinction of being the narrator, the voice of this year’s in-game intros for the Pittsburgh Steelers so for every home game this season when the clock hits zero, the first voice you hear is mine. Give a big, ‘Here we go’ and the video packages and it’s honestly, I wanna say it’s a dream come true but it’s actually more so, growing up, being born and raised in Pittsburgh, lifelong Steelers fan, it’s so cool with WWE and the NFL have been working together. Obviously, we got the new championship legacy titles. That relationship has been really cool so to be able to experience that on my home turf, literally, in the city that I love and live in and feel so strongly about was absolutely incredible.” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)

Samoa Joe is in a different place. He’s as good, if not better, than he’s ever been. Penta had the best singles match he’s had in AEW, so those guys were motivated.” Ross also gave his thoughts on his belief of Darby Allin being one of the best ever homegrown prospects he has ever seen during his career. Ross stated “Earlier in the night, the Roddy Strong/Darby Allin match was nothing short of epic. He’s a fearless kid, I love him. He’s just one of the best homegrown prospects I’ve ever seen. He’s young, he’s in his mid-20s. So if he can hold up…that whole story was about his spine, his back. That’s what the announcers should be talking about because that was the whole story. Roddy Strong did a lot of creative things to focus on that body part.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

Which is a very humbling thing that I get to say that, I get to be tag partners with him and work with him. To have somebody like that on your side, to bounce ideas off of it to play that Regal role and tell you this sucks or whatever, or change that, that’s an immense tool, that I don’t take for granted, that I have in my toolbox that I get to pick his brain. Bryan is like the greatest pure pro wrestler of all time. If you just picked him up and stuck him in any ring of the world, whether it be in the parking lot of an auto parts store in Tijuana, or the Tokyo Dome, or the main event of WrestleMania, or AEW Dynamite, you put him in any ring against any opponent with no context whatsoever and just ring the bell. Anybody watching, he will suck into that match and they’ll feel like they’re watching a real struggle and he just completely sucked into this match for the duration of it against anybody anywhere, anytime. He’s just the most perfect pure wrestler that’s ever lived. I’ve taken a great deal of influence from him, as I’m sure many pro wrestlers have.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
  • As noted before, AEW’s turnstile attendance count for this past August’s All In event at Wembley Stadium in London, England was revealed to be 72,65 based on the official count from police at the event. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Wrestlenomics’ report about the drop count for AEW events being accurate. Meltzer reported that based on the turnstile number, WWE’s WrestleMania 32 event would still hold the all-time record for largest in-person attendance for a paid event. In regards to the large discrepancy between AEW’s paid attendance number and the turnstile count number, Meltzer reported that several Observer Newsletter readers in the United Kingdom stated that they currently believe that the on-going rail strikes likely played a role in a large number of those who had paid for tickets did not attend the event in the end. This reportedly would have caused those people to need to make very late changes to their travel plans and book a night in a hotel in order to attend the event and have a place to stay afterwards since travel back home would be near impossible.

I am currently in Japan. I’ve had no fucking sleep, I am tired. This is the worst fucking day of my life [laughs]. Do you know how hard it was for me to get a tattoo? My mom fucking hates them, bruv. They announced it to everyone. They announced it as 81,000 people. I’ve got this fucking thing on my arm [laughs].
  • As noted before, AEW recently announced that they will be holding a new Collision show on October 21st in Memphis, Tennessee. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the reason why AEW announced the date for this show later than usual for AEW events is due to issues related to WWE’s strict terms for venues running both WWE and non-WWE events. Meltzer reported that these terms forbide venues from being able to advertise non-WWE events for a certain period of time before and after WWE runs their own event in the venue. • In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Bryan Danielson gave his thoughts about CM Punk’s recent firing from AEW. Danielson stated “In any job, when you lose somebody who’s very important, or you lose somebody you really like working with, that’s hard. But everyone keeps doing the job. And any time there is loss or controversy or struggle inside an organization, it’s a chance to bring people closer. It’s also a chance to divide people. So you have this thing where you can use struggle to make your life worse, or you can use struggle to make your life better. When I lost my father, I came out on the backside. I was worse. Struggling with my depression, I’ve come out of it better. So how you approach something and how you learn from something, that’s what makes the difference.

Replica belts would take about 9 months to get produced. If something happened to one of ours, they would have been replaced by one of these. Hand crafted by Red Leather Belts. Only 10 are available. So yes this a release for a hardcore collector. We are also working on trying to get toy versions of these as well. Trust me, if it were a commercial release it wouldn’t be 5k haha

  • In a recent interview with Fightful Overbooked’s Indied podcast, MLW talent Akira gave his thoughts about getting to work with ECW legend Raven in MLW. Akira stated “Raven is really like the crazy uncle that you like to see at family reunions. So, obviously, if he fucks with you, he’s really cool with you. I didn’t know how he was going to perceive me. He told me on the first day, he was like, ‘You have a cool look, you’re here, you’re willing to listen, you already have all the tools. Your body’s gonna get better, your work’s gonna get better.’ This was in January, February, whenever he debuted. When he’s there, it’s like sitting there with an uncle. He talks, he tells jokes, some of them are corny, but we laugh. He’s also very wise, we all know he’s wise. He’s been put through the ringer in wrestling, but you can see him when he has a really smart idea. He’s sitting there and he’s looking up. Not to ignore you, but he’s grasping the idea he’s going to give you and he’s gonna tell you and you’re gonna go, ‘Oh shit, that’s so smart.’ He’s been hit a lot, I’ve been hit a lot. He’s one of the smartest guys but you’ve gotta be patient with him because when he’s thinking, he takes his time and when he does get that idea for you, you’re gonna feel like it’s going to get you to the next level.
  • In the same interview, Akira also praised both Raven and Rickey Shane Page for helping him improve the quality of his promo work in MLW. Akira stated “We sat there and we cut promos in the back. We’ve all seen my work, I’ve always been much of a work rate guy, I’ve never been a big promo guy. This year has kinda changed that because I’ve been cutting promos and people go, ‘That was really good.’ Thanks Raven, thanks RSP because I went into MLW knowing I have to cut a promo. I’m elegant, I know I can talk, but it’s different in terms of illustrating that in a professional wrestling sense. When you listen to CM Punk talk, CM Punk has a cadence in a way. He’s not blurting out a ton of information, he slows down, he gives stops where people can stop and think about his words. Love him or hate him, when he came back to Collision, tell me when I’m lieing. That was the key phrase of the entire thing. It sticks in your head and I realize to, by listening to him and Ricky talk, I don’t like hokey pro wrestling promos. Nothing against them, I don’t like cutting them because I feel gross when I cut them. I feel like an 80’s corporate tool, what the fuck. But when you listen to guys like Kingston talk, when you listen to guys like Bret Hart talk. People will shut on Bret Hart’s promo work, but when Bret Hart talked, it felt real.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

That’s not just because she’s my friend. She’s my sister, and we do GAW TV together. I mean, the woman has been through it all. Sky stated “I honestly had a blast at the NWA in the commentary role. I like to try to be versatile in this industry. Not just be known as Velvet Sky the wrestler. It’s like when you put your whole youth into something and then that part of your life comes to an end. I’ve been in the industry since I was 20 years old. 22 years later, I’m still a part of it even though I’m not active in the ring and I would like it to stay that way as far as being involved in the industry in some role and if I’m not, again, then I’m totally fine because I’m totally at peace and I’m totally happy and satisfied with what I have done in the wrestling industry as far as, you know, being in IMPACT and my time in NWA as a commentator which I really did enjoy and Joe (Galli) and Tim (Storm), they took me under their wing and I learned a lot from them. They showed me the ropes of commentary and I still have a lot to learn obviously. I feel like I was just getting my toes wet in commentary with the NWA. But you know, good things have to come to an end. I have nothing bad to say about the company, my time there. That locker room as well is a breath of fresh air. I wouldn’t mind trying commentary out again somewhere, somehow and if it happens, great and if it (doesn’t), like I said, I’m more than satisfied with my time in wrestling and what I’ve done in wrestling even though wrestling, it’s in my blood, in my heart and in my soul. So of course I would always want to be a part of this industry in some way, shape or form. So you never know. Never say never. But yes, I would honestly like to try out commentary somewhere or just being involved in wrestling as a whole would be great and like I said, if it doesn’t happen, again, I’m cool, I’m good. I’m living life, I’m enjoying it. I’m good.” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)
