More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for October 25th

The October 25th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and a large decline in key demographic ratings and key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 774,000 viewers and a 0.24 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 9th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines this week was due to a combination of stiff sports competition from that night’s NBA season opening games, higher than usual competition from news programming coverage of the Maine mass shooting attack, and the large declines from their younger male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 38% and 54.6% respectively compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline in overall viewership that AEW suffered after their first 30 minutes and never recovered from for the rest of the show. This reportedly offset the gains from their younger female key demographic viewership group, which was up 6% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership was its lowest since the June 15, 2022 show and their key demographic viewership was its lowest since the June 28th episode.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Dallas Mavericks vs. San Antonio Spurs drew 2,989,000 viewers on ESPN, the NBA game of Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks drew 2,552,000 viewers on ESPN, the NHL game of Washington Capitals vs. New Jersey Devils drew 452,000 viewers on TNT, Survivor drew 5,031,000 viewers on CBS, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills drew 1,023,000 viewers on BRAVO, Challenge: New Champion drew 342,000 viewers on MTV, Sistas Series drew 1,043,000 viewers on BET, and House Hunters drew 768,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 321,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was 67,000 viewers (down 38%), Females 18-34 was 53,000 viewers (up 6%), Males 35-49 was 167,000 viewers (down 4.6%), and Females 35-49 was 33,000 viewers (down 54.6%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 234,000 male viewers and 86,000 female viewers for a split of 72.9% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 982,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 643,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In an interesting note, Meltzer reported Tuesday’s WWE NXT show managed to top AEW’s show in overall viewership, overall 18-34, Males 18-34, and Over 50. AEW managed to top NXT in Females 18-34, overall 35-49, Males 35-49, and Females 35-49. In regards to the overall 18-34 ratings, NXT drew a 0.19 rating while AEW drew a 0.17 rating.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 22.4% in overall viewership and down 23.6% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 25.3% compared to the same week last year.

The October 20th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a small decline in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 342,000 viewers and a 0.11 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 36th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to stiff sports competition from the 2023 MLB Playoffs and the very large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 56% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2023 MLB Playoffs NLCS Game 4 of Philadelphia Phillies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks drew 5,393,000 viewers on TBS, the NBA Preseason game of San Antonio Spurs vs. Golden State Warriors drew 366,000 viewers on NBA TV, the College Football game of SMU vs. Temple drew 548,000 viewers on ESPN, Love After Lockup drew 348,000 viewers on WETV, House Hunters drew 826,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV, and On Patrol Live drew 627,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 145,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 27,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 10,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 74,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 35,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 101,000 male viewers and 45,000 female viewers for a split of 69.7% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 28.8% in overall viewership and down 16.2% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 46.4% compared to the same week last year.

The October 21st episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a small increase in key demographic ranking and a slight increase in overall viewership and key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 518,000 viewers and a 0.16 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 12th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the large gains from their younger key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were up 34.4% and 24.3% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly mostly offset the stiff sports competition that night and the decline from their older female key demographic viewership group, which was down 26.9% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2023 MLB Playoffs NLCS Game 5 of Philadelphia Phillies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks drew 4,616,000 viewers on TBS, the College Football game of Duke vs. Florida State drew 4,082,000 viewers on ABC, the College Football game of Michigan vs. Michigan State drew 3,730,000 viewers on NBC, the College Football game of Utah vs. USC drew 3,227,000 viewers on FOX, the College Football game of Mississippi vs. Auburn drew 1,803,000 viewers on ESPN, the College Football game of Texas Tech vs. BYU drew 545,000 viewers on FS1, and On Patrol Live drew 672,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 211,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 54,000 viewers (up 14.9%), Females 18-34 had 32,000 viewers (up 88.2%), Males 35-49 had 87,000 viewers (up 23.4%), and Females 35-49 had 38,000 viewers (down 26.9%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 141,000 male viewers and 70,000 female viewers for a split of 66.9% in favor of males.
