Update on Status of AEW Dynamite Week 216 Viewership for November 22nd

Due to this past week’s Thanksgiving holiday, the viewership and ratings numbers for AEW’s Dynamite show on November 22nd have been delayed.

As a result, detailed viewership and ratings breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter and will likely be available instead in this Friday’s new issue.


More on AEW Rampage Viewership for November 17th

The November 17th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large drop in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a small drop in key demographic ratings. That week’s episode was notable for being a live and not taped show.

AEW drew 280,000 viewers and a 0.09 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 34th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the large declines from their younger key demographic viewership, older male key demographic viewership, and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 35.6%, 12.5%, and 18.2% respectively compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Phoenix Suns vs. Utah Jazz drew 1,301,000 viewers on ESPN, the College Football game of Colorado vs. Washington State drew 727,000 viewers on FS1, the College Football game of South Florida vs. UTSA drew 429,000 viewers on ESPN2, the CONCAF Nations League match of Honduras vs. Mexico drew 598,000 viewers on TUDN, 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 406,000 viewers on TLC, Love After Lockup drew 345,000 viewers on WETV, House Hunters drew 756,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV, and On Patrol Live drew 709,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 121,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 28,000 viewers (down 30%), Females 18-34 had 11,000 viewers (down 42.1%), Males 35-49 had 56,000 viewers (down 12.5%), and Females 35-49 had 27,000 viewers (down 18.2%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 84,000 male viewers and 38,000 female viewers for a split of 68.6% in favor of males.

In an interesting note, Meltzer reported that the second-to-third hour differences from Collision’s show that was preempted and aired live that night instead and Rampage’s show was Males 18-34 viewership was up 21.7%, Females 18-34 viewership was down 45%, Males 35-49 viewership was up 40%, and Females 35-49 viewership was down 3.6%.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 37.1% in overall viewership and down 33.5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 32.1% compared to the same week last year.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 290,000 overall viewers and 127,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the TNT Championship match of Trent Beretta vs. Christian Cage (c))
  • 2Q – 267,000 overall viewers and 117,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the TNT Championship match, the Chris Jericho backstage interview segment, and the bulk of the Toni Storm vs. Emi Sakura match)
  • 3Q – 277,000 overall viewers and 117,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Storm vs. Sakura match & post-match stuff with Storm & Luther, the Eddie Kingston, Jay Lethal & Pals, & Ortiz backstage segment, and the start of the Roderick Strong vs. Action Andretti match)
  • 4Q – 287,000 overall viewers and 122,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Strong vs. Andretti match, the Jay White sitdown backstage interview, and the MJF, Bullet Club Gold, & Samoa Joe brawl segment)

More on AEW Collision Viewership for November 17th

The November 17th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a small decline in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for being preempted to a Friday night timeslot due to AEW’s Full Gear 2023 event taking place that Saturday.

AEW drew 270,000 viewers and a 0.08 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 45th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines was a combination of going head-to-head against WWE’s SmackDown show and being preempted out of its normal Saturday night timeslot. Another reason reportedly was due to the declines from their younger male key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were down 30.3% and 45.7% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their younger female key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were up 66.7% and 21.7% respectively compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Sacramento Kings vs. San Antonio Spurs drew 1,370,000 viewers on ESPN, the College Football game of South Florida vs. UTSA drew 429,000 viewers on ESPN2, the CONCAF Nations League match of Honduras vs. Mexico drew 598,000 viewers on TUDN, Gold Rush drew 1,444,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, Bering Sea Gold drew 766,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, Love After Lockup drew 345,000 viewers on WETV, and On Patrol Live drew 709,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 111,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 23,000 viewers (down 30.3%), Females 18-34 had 20,000 viewers (up 66.7%), Males 35-49 had 40,000 viewers (down 45.2%), and Females 35-49 had 28,000 viewers (up 21.7%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 63,000 male viewers and 48,000 female viewers for a split of 56.8% in favor of males.

  • 2Q – 279,000 overall viewers and 116,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Miro vs. Garcia match and the Andrade El Idolo & CJ Perry backstage interview segment)
  • 3Q – 273,000 overall viewers and 125,000 key demo viewers (Malakai Black & Brody King vs. The Boys tag team match, the Julia Hart vs. Skye Blue vs. Kris Statlander TBS Championship hype video segment, and the start of the TNT Championship #1 Contender Four-way match of Trent Baretta vs. Penta El Zero Miedo vs. Komander vs Brian Cage)
  • 4Q – 266,000 overall viewers and 105,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the TNT Championship #1 Contender Four-way match, the Don Callis & Powerhouse Hobbs backstage segment, the Wardlow vs. Evan Daniels match, and the start of the RUSH vs. Dax Harwood match)
  • 5Q – 258,000 overall viewers and 102,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the RUSH vs. Harwood match & post-match brawl with Ricky Starks, Big Bill, Cash Wheeler, Dralistico, Malakai Black, & Brody King)
