Four New Matches & One Updated Match Announced for AEW Worlds End, Updated Card

Saturday’s Collision Holiday Bash 2023 show featured three new matches officially announced, one potential new match, and one updated match for the card of AEW’s Worlds End event on December 30th in Long Island, New York.

In regards to the new matches, the first new match announced was a FTW Championship match of Wheeler Yuta vs. HOOK (c).

This match was setup following a video promo segment involving HOOK. During the segment, HOOK was seen outdoors walking down a set of stairs and flanked by two people whose upper bodies were not shown. HOOK responded to Yuta’s recent actions against him and Yuta wanting his FTW title. HOOK stated that if Yuta wants a match, then he will give him one next week in his turf at AEW’s Worlds End event.

The second new match announced was a TNT Championship No Disqualification match of Adam Copeland vs. Christian Cage (c).

This matchup was setup following an in-ring promo segment involving Cage, Nick Wayne, and Wayne’s mother Shayna. Cage grabbed a microphone and talked about Nick’s mother smashing Copeland in the head with the TNT title during their match for the title in Montreal. Cage stated that he did not need to explain why it happened since they can all hear it from Nick’s mom instead which led to Shayna coming out. Shayna grabbed a microphone and berated the crowd for booing a mother who is single and Copeland for his chair attack on her son. Shayna stated that she did what any loving mother would do in her situation, protect her son. Shayna also stated that there is one other person who really loves and cares for her son as much as she does, which she stated was Cage. Cage responded bashing Copeland and praised Shayna for being a hard working mother so that her son’s dream of being a pro wrestler could be true unlike Copeland’s mom. After some more bragging about his win in Montreal to retain his TNT title and insults towards Copeland, Cage accepted Copeland’s challenge for a No DQ match for his TNT title at Worlds End. This match was later made official for the show.

The third new match announced was a TBS Championship match of Abadon vs. Julia Hart (c).

This match was initially announced prior to the start of Saturday’s Collision show and was setup following Abadon’s issues with Hart over the past several weeks revolving around Hart constantly teasing and taunting Abadon with her TBS title. During the show, a match graphic was shown confirming that this match has been officially added to Worlds End.

In regards to the potential new match, this was announced to be a tag team match of FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) vs. House of Black (Buddy Matthews & Malakai Black).

This match was setup following Daniel Garcia’s win over Brody King in a Continental Classic Blue League tournament match. As Garcia was celebrating, the lights went off and went in came back on, House of Black’s Matthews and Black were in the ring holding up Garcia for King to attack. This led to Matt Menard trying to save Garcia only to be quickly taken out. King snapped Garcia’s fingers leading to FTR coming out to save Garcia and Menard and ran out HoB. Harwood grabbed a microphone stating that they had enough of HoB’s antics and actions and challenged them to a tag match at Worlds End to end things between the two once and for all.

In regards to the new updated match, this was announced to be an AEW World Tag Team Championship match of Chris Jericho & mystery partner vs. Big Bill & Ricky Starks (c).

This updated match was setup following a backstage interview segment involving Big Bill, Starks, and Jericho. AEW backstage interviewer Lexy Nair asked for Bill and Starks’ thoughts about their tag title match against the Golden Jets at Worlds End being called off due to Kenny Omega’s injury. Bill and Starks responded mocking Omega and claimed that his diverticulitis injury sounded like a made up injury and just Omega not having the guts to go through with his challenge for their belts. This led to Jericho showing up to interrupt and stated that while Omega might be out of action, he still has a signed contract for a tag title match at Worlds End. Jericho also stated their match is still on and he is going to find someone to be his tag team partner.

Current confirmed card for AEW Worlds End:

  • AEW World Championship – Samoa Joe vs. MJF (c)
  • AEW Women’s World Championship – Riho vs. Toni Storm (c)
