More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for January 17th

The January 17th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a small increase in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 891,000 viewers and a 0.33 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 1st place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large gains from their younger key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were up 24.5% and 11% respectively compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s overall viewership was their largest since their October 17, 2023 episode and their key demographic viewership was their largest since their September 20, 2023 Grand Slam 2023 show. Meltzer also reported that this past Wednesday’s Dynamite show was the first time in many months that a professional wrestling television show was the top ranked show for a particular night.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers drew 1,986,000 viewers on ABC, the NBA game of Milwaukee Bucks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers drew 786,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of USC vs. Arizona drew 527,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Mississippi vs. LSU drew 680,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College basketball game of Creighton vs. UCONN drew 341,000 viewers on FS1, the NHL game of Detroit Red Wings vs. Florida Panthers drew 198,000 viewers on TNT, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills drew 1,093,000 viewers on BRAVO, Sistas Series drew 1,131,000 viewers on BET, and Challenge New Champion drew 497,000 viewers on MTV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 435,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was 117,000 viewers (up 21.9%), Females 18-34 was 66,000 viewers (up 29.4%), Males 35-49 was 181,000 viewers (up 11%), and Females 35-49 was 71,000 viewers (up 4.4%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 298,000 male viewers and 137,000 female viewers for a split of 68.5% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, one of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 1,070,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 754,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 8% in overall viewership but up 8.2% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 21.1% compared to the same week last year.

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for January 12th

The January 12th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a small decline in key demographic rankings and a slight decline in overall viewership and key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 396,000 viewers and a 0.12 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 22nd place

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the large declines from their younger key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 22.1% and 30% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their Over 50 viewership group, which its percentage was not given, and older male key demographic viewership group, which was up 4.4% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of New Orleans Pelicans vs. Denver Nuggets game drew 1,120,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of DePaul vs. Villanova drew 214,000 viewers on FS1, the College basketball game of Boise State vs. Nevada drew 136,000 viewers on FS1, Love After Lockup drew 443,000 viewers on WETV, House Hunters drew 974,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV, and On Patrol Live drew 855,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 152,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 34,000 viewers (down 20.9%), Females 18-34 had 19,000 viewers (down 24%), Males 35-49 had 77,000 viewers (up 4.1%), and Females 35-49 had 28,000 viewers (down 30%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 111,000 male viewer and 41,000 female viewers for a split of 73% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 22.8% in overall viewership and down 10.6% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 26.2% compared to the same week last year.

The January 13th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a small decline in key demographic ratings and a slight decline in overall viewership.

AEW drew 400,000 viewers and a 0.10 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 20th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines that week was due to the very stiff sports competition from the 2024 NFL Playoffs Wild Card game of Miami Dolphins vs. Kansas City Chiefs which drew 28 million viewers combined on Peacock and local television markets. Another reason reportedly was due to the large declines from their younger key demographic viewership and older male key viewership groups, which were down 26.5% and 40% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their Over 50 viewership group, which its percentage was not given, and older female key demographic group, which was up 19.4% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2024 NFL Playoffs Wild Card game of Miami Dolphins vs. Kansas City Chiefs drew 28 million viewers on Peacock and local television markets, the NBA game of Golden State vs. Milwaukee Bucks drew 336,000 viewers on NBA TV, the Women’s College basketball game of Indiana vs. Iowa drew 1,043,000 viewers on FOX, the College basketball game of Cincinnati vs. Baylor drew 533,000 viewers on ESPN, and On Patrol Live drew 799,000 viewers on REELZ Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 136,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 24,000 viewers (down 4%), Females 18-34 had 18,000 viewers (down 25%), Males 35-49 had 54,000 viewers (down 40%), and Females 35-49 had 43,000 viewers (up 19.4%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 78,000 male viewers and 61,000 female viewers for a split of 57.4% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that AEW’s male skew was one of the lowest ever for an AEW show in AEW history.

Meltzer reported that AEW’s show drew the lowest ever key demographic rating and viewership for a Battle of the Belts show in Battle of the Belts series history. Meltzer also reported that the main reason for AEW’s show series low numbers was due to the very stiff sports competition that night from the 2024 NFL Playoffs Wild Card game of Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs.
