Deonna Purrazzo Comments on Her Reason for Leaving TNA & Joining AEW

A recent episode of the Talk Is Jericho podcast featured Deonna Purrazzo as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Purrazzo’s thoughts about her decision to leave Impact/TNA Wrestling and join AEW.

“So, I knew my contract was coming up in IMPACT and I just kind of felt like if it was time to leave, it would be now. If this was the territories, now would be the time to leave, right? And Britt Baker actually connected me with Tony Khan and we just got to talking and I knew the first Dynamite of the new year, it was gonna be in Jersey, that’s where I’m from. So I was like, ‘That would be a dream scenario, dream come true if we could do that’ and it all worked out.”

Purrazzo also gave her thoughts about the reasons why she decided to leave Impact/TNA.

“So I was the champion for a very long time in IMPACT. I got to work with all of the women that were in our locker room and it was just like, what other stories are there to tell? Everyone’s kind of put me over at that point, I’ve beaten everybody. They kind of figured maybe I was on my way out so I got to do the favors and put everyone else over on my way out and so, it was just kind of like, what else is there to do? There’s no one new coming in that I could work with and I don’t know what else there is to tell here.”

TNA News & Notes

TNA Wrestling announced earlier today that the classic “Cross The Line” theme song for TNA shows will be officially returning starting with tonight’s TNA Impact! show. It was stated “Due to the overwhelmingly positive reception to it being featured on our recent live events, the iconic Cross the Line theme will return starting TONIGHT on #TNAiMPACT on @AXSTV!

TNA also announced that Ash by Elegance will be making her official in-ring debut for the company at their upcoming Impact! tapings on January 20th in Orlando, Florida.

In a recent interview with the Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz podcast, Killer Kelly gave her thoughts about her recent TNA Knockouts World Tag Team title reign. Kelly stated “182 days (as Knockouts World Tag Team Champions)… Yeah, it was really, really special and it was even better being an IMPACT World Title. It wasn’t just a random promotion, my first big U.S. title. It was IMPACT, so it’s a huge deal and I’ll hold it very, very dearly to my heart.” Kelly also gave her thoughts about working with Masha Slamovich being the most fun time of her career. Kelly stated “I do love being in M.K. Ultra. This is the most fulfilling I’ve ever felt in my career and me and Masha (Slamovich), we’re such a good pair and the chemistry is so undeniable. We work so well as a team. You can see it in-ring, you can see it in videos that we make, the photos that we take. We are just a tag team through and through and we have another goal. We were the longest reigning IMPACT Tag Team Champions, 182 days so now our goal is to be the longest reigning TNA. So we need to recapture those titles and make history once again.” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)

In a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Gail Kim gave her thoughts about Trinity’s current run in TNA opening up a newfound confidence for her career. Kim stated “I can never give her enough props because of, not only the performer that she is, but the human being that she is. She’s never changed from the girl that I met in NXT. I worked with her, I think people forget, when she first came into WWE because I was there on the main roster. Of course, everyone coming into the company is gonna be all timid and nice. She’s never changed from that person. If anything, she’s only gotten better. It’s a testament, when you see her interact with the fans and how much they love her and all her loyal fans, the love she gives back, and to see her in the ring, we already know she’s a star. To see her level up in the ring, because obviously we have a great division, we give the girls a lot of time, we feature them a lot. She has killed it. I think it just opened up this newfound confidence for her as well. I remember her, when she came into the company, I wasn’t there actually. I was doing Amazing Race at the time for her debut, I missed that. I talked to her before, and then she had her first match with KiLynn King, which was off the charts. Then to see this last match, obviously she didn’t come out victorious, but that match, I think everyone was like, woah. She even surprised me. That powerbomb, I was like, ‘Oh, okay, Trinity.’ I knew she already had it, but she’s showing that she can really go. I think she was surprised when she first came into our company, the time that she was given, she was like, ‘Woah, oh my gosh.’ Now, it’s like, she can go any time.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with TNA, Nic Nemeth gave his thoughts about his ideal path and plans for his current career in the company. Nemeth stated “I wasn’t focused on Moose [at TNA Hard To Kill], and I wasn’t even focused on the championship, which I have thought about non-stop for a long time. Like I said, I go, where can I pinpoint the moment where people will make it the most memorable? I did 20 years in one company. I get one chance to make a second impression here on the world. That will be the biggest possible moment and the most talked-about, I think. I really think that helps myself and the company. I didn’t have a plan. Moose is in my target, I got him. I was watching that title match going, whoever wins, I’m sliding in there and going, ‘Here I am, let’s go.’ So I don’t exactly know what my focus is, other than, I have earned everything that I’ve worked for, to a point where I go, I don’t want to stroll in here and be like, ‘Hey, I showed up through the crowd so you gotta give me a title shot,’ or, ‘I’m famous, so I get a ….’ No, I wanted to make my mark there, and now I focus on, where can I fit in? Where can I start building blocks to make myself to where I’m not presenting it, but the world goes, this should be the number one contender, and here’s why. Then, when that happens, I’ll know that I’ll be able to sleep at night going, I have proven myself worthy of a title shot. Okay, now let’s focus on the champion.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
