WWE and All Japan Pro Wrestling recently formed a working partnership involving WWE NXT talent Charlie Dempsey being sent to AJPW for their New Year Giant Series 2024 event this past Wednesday in Tokyo, Japan. Besides AJPW, WWE is currently interested in a potential working partnership with Stardom.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque and WWE President Nick Khan are currently looking to form working partnerships with multiple Japanese promotions. Levesque and Khan reportedly want to form a partnership with one all-women’s promotion as part of their plans.
Meltzer reported that WWE officials recently held internal talks regarding the idea of making another attempt at forming a potential partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling now that Hiroshi Tanahashi is their new President.
Meltzer reported that one factor that could prevent a potential partnership between WWE and NJPW is the major financial success Forbidden Door events have been for both NJPW and AEW. Another factor reportedly involves AEW allowing their top stars to work at NJPW’s major events in the United States and Japan that could influence NJPW not be willing to drop their partnership with AEW.
WWE previously attempted to form a partnership with NJPW in 2021 that led to nothing in the end.
