Serena Deeb Comments on Calling Herself “The Final Boss” and Someone Taking the Nickname

A recent Highspots Sign-It-Live virtual fan signing event featured Serena Deeb as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Deeb’s thoughts about calling herself “The Final Boss” in a promo on the March 2nd AEW Collision show and someone else quickly taking that nickname afterwards.

“Funny thing is I said that (‘The Final Boss’) on Collision and then the following week — I don’t even know if I can say this. Well I can say whatever. He stole it? (Deeb laughed & repeated the co-host saying the nickname was stolen)… Someone took it and you guys would know who he is.”

This mystery person Deeb refereed to was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who now goes by the same nickname for his current feud with Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes in WWE.

Chris Jericho Comments on Sting’s AEW Career & Nobody Ever Says Anything Bad About Sting

A recent episode of the Gabby AF podcast featured Chris Jericho as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Jericho’s praise of Sting for his hard work in AEW and nobody ever saying anything bad about Sting during his legendary career.

“Sting is one of those guys that, when he came in, he was super humble. No one ever says anything bad about Sting, ever. His retirement match, it’s one of those things where you can never duplicate that. His sons, the match that they had with Darby out there and the Bucks. Sting worked his ass off when he was in AEW. I really respected that because he really didn’t have to. He wasn’t here to collect a check. He was working hard and taking crazy bumps. The match that we had, Sammy and I against Darby and him, where he jumped off the ladder and through the table, he kind of slipped and hit his head, ‘Sting can’t continue,’ he comes back in the ring and is like, ‘Fucking right I’m continuing, what are you talking about?’ He never gave anything less than 1000% percent. It’s almost like KISS with Paul [Paul Stanley] and Gene [Gene Simmons] when you have the makeup. You don’t think of them as being 64 or 65, he’s just Sting. He does such a great job of evolving his character and still being relevant and still being cool. It’s a great story. It’s sad to see him go, but nobodies career lasts forever and nobodies career lasts until you’re 65 and still working great matches. He was really smart. He never had a singles match in AEW. He never wanted to have a singles match, he always wanted to do the tags and as much as he helped Darby, Darby helped him. That’s one of the greatest mentor-students, fuck, one of the greatest tag teams of all-time for that reason. It was great to be part of that. What an inspiration. In a company where I’m kind of like the seasoned vet, when Sting came in, I was learning from him. When we did our matches together, you fall back on what Sting wants to do first and we work from there. He was great and I’m glad we got to do some matches together because we had never been in the ring before, ever. We had a couple of really good matches and moments.”

Backstage Update on The Infantry’s Win Over House of Black in AEW’s Tag Team Title Tournament

This past Saturday’s AEW Collision show featured The Infantry defeating House of Black in a Wild Card match for AEW’s tag team tournament to crown new AEW Tag Team Champions.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that AEW’s original plans for The Infantry’s match against House of Black was different than what was done during the show.

Meltzer reported that The Infantry winning and Mark Briscoe getting his revenge to cost House of Black took place as planned but AEW’s original plans for the match itself was for it be a lot more competitive. Those spoken to reportedly stated that creative issues arose during the day of the show regarding the plans for House of Black to lose the match. The original plans reportedly were meant to protect House of Black and give The Infantry credibility as a tag team for the tournament.

Meltzer reported that it is currently not known if it was House of Black, the agent for the match, or AEW CEO Tony Khan who got the original plans changed to House of Black dominating the match and The Infantry picking up the fluke victory. AEW officials reported went in with the idea that people would be talking about The Infantry in a positive light and their big upset victory but this did not happen the way that AEW officials had expected.
