As noted before, this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Charleston, West Virginia featured an in-ring interview segment involving Will Ospreay. During his promo, Ospreay called out WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque in all but name over recent comments Levesque made about wrestlers who rather take an easier work schedule for other promotions being people who are not in it for the grind for their careers and not worthy of working in WWE.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that the comments Ospreay made for his segment on the show were his idea and not AEW CEO Tony Khan that was stated in an earlier report about the segment. It was reported that Ospreay had ran his promo plans through other people backstage prior to his segment on the show.
Ospreay reportedly had also planned to include a shot at CM Punk over disparaging comments Punk made at his regarding his All In attendance tattoo during WrestleMania 40 weekend. It was reported that AEW officials felt that this was overkill for his promo and scrapped his idea for it to be included.
In regards to the reaction over Ospreay’s comments, it was reported that this came as a surprise to talent in both WWE and AEW. One WWE talent spoken to reportedly stated that it was clear Ospreay was attempting to be respectful of the process and of WWE despite his ultimate decision to sign with AEW over family-related reasons.
