WWE Drops “Universal” Name from Undisputed WWE Universal Title

Monday’s WWE RAW After Mania show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania featured WWE officially dropping the “Universal” name for their Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

This announcement was made by WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque during his show opening speech addressing the crowd and this past weekend’s WrestleMania 40 being the “best WrestleMania of all-time.” Levesque called out for Cody Rhodes to come out and addressed him as the new Undisputed Champion.

Following a tribute video airing and some words by Rhodes about his title victory and being on the top of the mountain, Rhodes asked WWE ring announcer Samantha Irvin to call out his title victory one more time. Irvin confirmed that the new name for the Undisputed title going forward is the “Undisputed WWE Championship.”

In a bit of a funny moment, Rhodes finished off his promo addressing his status as the new champion by fumbling the name of his title calling it the “Undisputed Universal Championship.”

The Rock Confronts Cody Rhodes & Says Cody’s Story with Roman Reigns is Over But Story with Rock Just Started on Monday’s RAW Show

Monday’s RAW show also featured The Rock teasing a future feud with Cody Rhodes.

During Rhodes’ promo celebrating his newly renamed Undisputed WWE Championship victory, The Rock’s music played interrupting Rhodes before he could finish.

The Rock came out to the ring carrying the People’s Championship that was given to him by Muhammad Ali’s widow at this past Friday’s WWE Hall of Fame 2024 ceremony. After a lengthy pause over the crowd constantly interrupting and booing The Rock when he tried to speak, The Rock responded saying that the Rock is a lot of things Philadelphia but “sucks” is not one of them. The Rock stated that he came out here to deliver flowers to Rhodes and also to say that Philadelphia broke another record for the “largest gathering of trailer park trash,” which led to a mixed loud reaction from the crowd booing and cheering in response.

After some more words, The Rock stated that Rhodes completed his story and beat all of the odds and defeated Roman Reigns in the ring. After some more words about the special belt he had for Rhodes and Mama Rhodes being happy over her son’s victory, The Rock talked about how his late father and Rhodes’ father Dusty also had big smiles on their faces from heaven.

After some more words, The Rock stated that he is proud of his title and asked Rhodes if he can hold his WWE title for a moment since he has never held that version of the WWE title before. This led to a very awkwardly interaction between the two. The Rock and Rhodes proceeded to swap their belts and held each other’s belt for a little bit before handing it back to the other. This led to the crowd chanting “This is awkward” over what had went down in the ring between Rock and Rhodes.

The Rock then stated that he was going to go away for a little while leading to mixed reactions from the crowd. The Rock stated that he loved pro wrestling and claimed he made it cool again as did Rhodes. The crowd proceeded to sing the “nah nah nah, hey hey goodbye” song directed at The Rock. The Rock continued stating that he will go away but when he comes back, whether Rhodes is still the champion or not, he is coming back for him. Rhodes responded stating that he is looking forward to it and The Rock responded back saying the same. The Rock talked about how Rhodes beat Reigns in the middle of the ring last night but he did the same to Rhodes the night before. The Rock stated that Rhodes’ story with Reigns is over but their story has just begun.

Rhodes responded stating ” I believe that because you’re the boss, right? You are the Final Boss, but you’re also on the board with TKO. You’re my literal boss, right?” The Rock responded in agreement leading to Rhodes stating that he does not dispute that he does not think Rock will dispute what he has to say next, which was Rhodes saying that he is the champion and that means he is Rock’s champion as well.

After a staredown between the two, Rock stated that Rhodes is his champion and had something to give to him. The Rock reached into his pockets and grabbed something and placed it in Rhodes’ hands telling him he does not need to open his hands to know what it is. The Rock then stated “don’t you ever break my heart again” and gave his “if you smell” catchphrase being leaving.
