Rocky Romero Comments on Wanting Future Wrestle Dynasty Events to Be “An Even Bigger Celebration”

AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling held their first ever co-promoted Wrestle Dynasty event earlier this month at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. Besides AEW and NJPW, this event also featured talent from CMLL, ROH, and Stardom and also involved Revolution Pro Wrestling.

A recent episode of the AEW Unrestricted podcast featured AEW and NJPW talent and executive Rocky Romero as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Romero’s thoughts about wanting to see more talent be involved in future events and for it to feel like an “even bigger celebration” of each company involved.

“I think in the future I would like to see even more of a celebration of each company. We had the lucha gauntlet, but I would like to see now, like, CMLL talent going for different titles. Whether they’re AEW titles or defending CMLL titles there, which I think would be really cool and really special because we haven’t seen that in a while. Maybe [we] get a glimpse of it once a year when CMLL visits and they do Fantasticamania in Japan.

I was glad that we had Ring of Honor involved, but I think that’s another thing that we could have. Imagine if [Chris] Jericho defended the Ring of Honor World Championship? That would be cool. You know, there’s a couple of other people that New Japan is working with. Maple Leaf Wrestling, I think that there’s something to do there with Scott D’Amore. I would like to really just make it an even bigger celebration the next time we do it. And really involve more talent and really see more use of everybody’s best foot forward or like best features, you know?”

Romero also gave his thoughts about how he never expected to have the Kenny Omega vs. Gabe Kidd match take place on the first Wrestle Dynasty show.

“Never expected that we would have a match like Kenny Omega versus Gabe Kidd, I mean, that wasn’t even in the cards, it came much later obviously not knowing what was going to happen to Kenny during his state. An opponent like Gabe Kidd where they’ve never even been in a room together until that moment. It was cool, it was cool to bring that together and it was such a representation of this younger generation, the youthful generation of New Japan, we’re seeing this rise of this brand new generation and they’re all super talented. To see the old school generation of Kenny, a guy who’s headlined that Tokyo Dome so many times in epic, legendary matches, comes and wrestles Gabe Kidd, who is the future. It was just a really cool moment, there was so much emotion in the building. It was definitely a marquee moment in my career just be a part of it.”

Former AEW and current TNA talent Frankie Kazarian recently reflected on Twitter praising Daniels and how much he meant to him as a friend and his own wrestling career. Kazarian statedThere’s no way to articulate what @facdaniels means to me. As an opponent, a tag team partner, or most importantly as a best friend and brother. In a recent virtual fan signing event for Captain’s Corner, AEW and ROH talent Rachael Ellering gave her thoughts about her enjoying her current time working in ROH and the challenges of ROH filming for their shows after AEW Collision shows. Ellering stated “I would love to (speak about my time with Ring of Honor). So, yeah, I’ve been doing ROH stuff for over a year and a half, and I really love it. That’s a brand that I’ve always appreciated and you know, original ROH was so mat-heavy, just wrestling-based, right? And I really, really loved that and so many great performers have come out there and I don’t know, I really love the idea of being a part of creating a new Ring of Honor and obviously, Athena has had the Women’s Championship for a long, long, long time, and so, it’s been kind of fun to be a part of the division in this new era and I hope to build it and make it something extremely special. I really love a lot of the girls that I get to work with every week there. Girls that don’t really get enough love. Even people like Red Velvet, Abadon, Diamante. Leyla (Hirsch) and myself, we had a storyline together last year. Now, Harley (Cameron) and I kind of have one, and I think we put so much thought and care and effort into ROH and a lot of people maybe don’t realize our matches go on after Collision most weeks and so, you know, it’s extra hard to kind of get the crowd to care and make the most of your minutes and really, really perform well at 11:30 PM when you’re sent out there. But we take so much pride in that and I think it really comes across in the product and so many women on ROH are delivering every single week and so I’m really, really proud to be a part of that brand and I hope to keep building it in any little way that I can and yeah, myself and Harley, when they say, ‘Opposites attract,’ you guys, her and I are literally opposites. But she’s a really wonderful person and so I have enjoyed kind of developing a little friendship with her over the last couple of months and hopefully that continues to blossom.” (Transcript h/t: PostWrestling.com)
