More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for January 8th

The January 8th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a small increase in overall viewership and a slight increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 615,000 viewers and a 0.17 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was #11 place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases that week was due to the small increase from their overall key demographic viewership group, which was up 6.1% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that the viewership on MAX for the show is currently not known nor the percentage of viewers who have already migrated to MAX for simulcast shows. AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory drew 979,000 viewers and a 0.16 rating.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Cleveland Cavaliers drew 1,870,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Arizona State vs. Kansas drew 604,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL game of Colorado Avalanche vs. Chicago Blackhawks drew 283,000 viewers on TNT, The Challenge drew 571,000 viewers on MTV, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City drew 542,000 viewers on BRAVO, Sistas Series drew 762,000 viewers on BET, and My 600-LB Life drew 344,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 227,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 44,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 26,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 121,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 36,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 72.7% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 22.8% in overall viewership and down 39.8% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 key demographic viewership was down 52.4% compared to the same week last year. Meltzer reported that one main reason for the large declines is due to the unknown key demographic viewership migration on MAX compared to last year’s show.

The January 15, 2025 episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and a slight gain in key demographic ratings. This week’s show was notable for being the Dynamite Maximum Carnage special.

AEW drew 679,000 viewers and a 0.18 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was #9 place.

Detailed key demographic viewership breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reasons for AEW’s increases was due to the large increase from their younger key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were up 24.3% and 50% respectively compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the stiff news competition from the President Biden’s Farewell Address and the large decline from their older key demographic viewership group, which was down 16.5% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that the viewership on MAX for the show is currently not known. Meltzer also reported that AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory drew 974,000 viewers and a 0.15 rating.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the President Biden Farewell Address drew over 20 million viewers combined on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, FOX News, CNN, and MSNBC, the NBA game of New York Knicks vs. Philadelphia 76ers drew 1,219,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Kansas vs. Iowa State drew 803,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL game of Edmonton Oilers vs. Minnesota Wild drew 271,000 viewers on TNT, the NHL game of Caroline Hurricanes drew 238,000 viewers on TNT, The Challenge drew 392,000 viewers on MTV, Sistas Series drew 749,000 viewers on BET, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City drew 528,000 viewers on BRAVO, and My 600-LB Life drew 410,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 242,000 viewers. AEW’s 18-34 Males had 61,000 viewers (up 38.6%), Females 18-34 had 26,000 viewers (even), Males 35-49 had 101,000 viewers (down 16.5%), and Females 35-49 had 54,000 viewers (up 50%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 66.9% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 23.8% in overall viewership and down 44.5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 key demographic viewership was down 52.5% compared to the same week last year.

The January 11th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW suffer a slight decline in overall viewership.

AEW drew 337,000 viewers and a 0.09 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was #25 place.

Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to a combination of the stiff sports competition from the 2024/2025 NFL Playoffs and the small decline from their overall key demographic viewership which was down 2.5% compared to the prior week’s show. Meltzer reported that the viewership on MAX for the show is currently not known

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2025 NFL Playoffs Wild Card game of Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens drew 22,070,000 viewers on Amazon Prime, the College basketball game of Indiana vs. Iowa drew 908,000 viewers on FOX, the College basketball game of Alabama vs. Texas A&M drew 812,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Tennessee vs. Texas drew 760,000 viewers on ESPN, On Patrol Live drew 607,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, and My 600-Lb. Life Super Sized drew 183,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 117,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 13,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 18,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 67,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 19,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 68.4% in favor of males.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 14.9% in overall viewership and down 23% in key demographic viewership.
