Britt Baker has been noticeably absent from AEW since this past November. Baker last wrestled on the November 13th episode of AEW Dynamite and appeared to be starting a new feud with Serena Deeb that was later dropped.
The Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported that his sources stated that a recent report from PWTorch’s Wade Keller about the reason for Baker’s current absence from AEW is due to issues related to another backstage incident is not true.
Keller had reported that his sources stated that Baker’s time in AEW might be done and AEW CEO Tony Khan might have her placed in the same category as several other AEW talents where they don’t get phone calls and don’t get called in to show up for work. Keller reported that those he spoke to claimed that Baker is “wildly unpopular” in the AEW’s women’s locker room to the point one person stated that no one ever wants to see her come back.
In regards to the potential reasons for her current absence and backstage view against her, Keller reported that those he spoke to stated that Baker had been involved in another recent backstage incident but not at the level of severity nor seen as a big deal as her incident with MJF this past July. Keller reported that this incident was enough to sort of be the “straw that broke the camel’s back” in terms of support for her within AEW. Keller also reported that Baker has developed a negative reputation backstage as being someone who is difficult to work with and being unpopular with many within the company. Keller also reported that those spoken to stated that Baker also has the reputation of being “fiercely territorial of her role in the company in a way that just felt unsustainable” and Khan finally became fed up with her actions.
Keller also reported that Baker’s recent breakup with Adam Cole has no bearing on her current situation in AEW nor is there any heat on Cole nor does he have anything to do with her current absence from the company.
In regards to Baker’s future in AEW, Keller reported that the current expectation is that Baker will not be returning any time soon and it is possible that she might not return and AEW would just let her contract run out.
Alvarez reported that those spoken to within AEW stated that Baker’s current situation is “blown way out of proportion.”
Alvarez reported that the reason for Baker’s current absence is simply due to her currently not being used and AEW officials have not had any creative plans for her at the moment.
Alvarez also reported that those spoken to also denied the portion of Keller’s report about Baker might be finished with the company.
