AEW News & Notes
Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Boston, Massachusetts featured AEW commentator Tony Schiavone stating that FTR’s Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood had been fined and were suspended for a week for their actions towards him at this past Saturday’s AEW Collision show.
Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Boston also featured the announcement of HOOK being pulled from the show and his scheduled Trios match with The Opps for the AEW World Trios Championship due to him being attacked by the Death Riders prior to the start of the show. AEW announcer Excalibur stated that HOOK was sent to the hospital for evaluations due to the unseen attack he had sustained.
Graphic designer Veszelka Designs announced on Twitter that he has recently signed a contract with AEW.
Kenny Omega recently announced on Twitter that he will be making an appearance at the Magic: The Gathering x FINAL FANTASY panel at this year’s PAX East event on May 10th in Boston, Massachusetts.
As noted before, AEW will be holding a co-promoted AEW Grand Slam: Mexico event with CMLL this June at the Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico. Lucha Blog reported that AEW’s upcoming event will be the first time ever in Arena Mexico history that a United States-based promotion will be taping a show at the arena.
Will Ospreay recently reflected on Twitter about AEW holding a Grand Slam Mexico event this June in Mexico City, Mexico. Ospreay stated “I have been waiting for this moment for so long !!!“
In response to recent comments made by WWE President Nick Khan in an interview with the Bill Simmons Podcast, Ricochet responded negatively about Khan’s claim that many AEW talents will jump ship to WWE once their contracts expire and insulted AEW CEO Tony Khan in the process. Nick Khan had stated “In terms of the other wrestling promotional company, they have a lot of talented wrestlers and we’re happy about that. When, contractually, they are available to talk to and have conversations with, assume a number of them will come over. Nothing but respect to the father who finances it and owns the Jaguars and all those other things.” Ricochet responded back stating “Oh man, these guys fucking suck.“
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, AEW CEO Tony Khan gave his thoughts about the possibility of AEW expanding their pay-per-view schedule to ten PPV events per year in the future but currently feels that nine events per year is a great number. The article stated “PPVs serve as the payoff points to the storylines laid out by weekly TV shows, like Dynamite. And Khan believes he’s found the sweet spot in terms of annual count; AEW currently is at nine pay-per-view events per year, but Khan could see it going up to 10. WWE is doing 17 of what it now bills as “Premium Live Events” this year. For now, nine is “a great number,” Khan said.“
In a recent episode of the 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff podcast, co-host Eric Bischoff gave his thoughts about AEW’s Dynamite series surpassing WCW Nitro for the longest ever running primetime weekly wrestling show in the history of Turner Networks. Bischoff stated “I want to congrtulate Tony Khan and his entire staff. This obviously means a lot to them, and congratulations. It does say a lot about Tony’s commitment. Tony put his own money into this. You can judge the product. I can judge the product. I often have, I just don’t watch it anymore. But the truth is, his vision, his dream, his money, his commitment. So congratulations. Because what he did isn’t easy. No matter how anybody feels about the product, it wasn’t easy and it still isn’t. So congratulations for your effort and no, it doesn’t bother me a bit. It doesn’t mean anything to me. While it does to Tony and company, and I understand why. He put a lot of time and work and money, as I’ve just discussed. So good for them. But no, it doesn’t bother me at all.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
