As noted before, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair’s contract with AEW was believed to have expired this past summer following the expiration of his Wooo! energy drink sponsorship deal with the company.
A recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast featured Flair as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Flair’s thoughts about if he would be part of WWE’s WrestleMania 41 event in person to potentially see John Cena break his all-time World Championship victories record.
“I wish I could say that I was, but I’m not, and I understand why, and I’m not mad about it by any means. Every time they talk about the title, my name gets mentioned. They keep me relevant. It’s very cool. John is a great guy. Cody is a great guy.”
In response to a question about why WWE would not want him there, Flair revealed that he is currently under contract with AEW.
“I work for another company. I’m sure I would be more than welcome. Absolutely, if I wasn’t working with Tony, I would absolutely be there. They couldn’t keep me out of the building.”
The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that his sources within AEW confirmed that Flair is still under contract with AEW.
