Skye Blue Comments on Her Recent Ankle Injury and Praise of Kyle Fletcher for Helping Her Get Through Her Recovery
As noted before, Skye Blue has been out of action from AEW since this past July due to a broken ankle injury. Blue will be making her official in-ring return at Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite Beach Break 2025 event in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
Q101 held a recent interview with Skye Blue and Kyle Fletcher as the guests. One of the topics discussed included Blue’s thoughts about her broken ankle injury she suffered during her match against Hikaru Shida in July of 2024.
“I’ve caught dives before so I didn’t think anything of it. As she jumped, I could tell something was off with it. It was either her head was hitting the floor or I was gonna dive and catch her. I dove and caught her. And the second I felt it, I had rolled over to get up because I had to crawl to where I was going, I felt my foot dangling from my leg…I could feel it detached. It was the grossest feeling that I’ve ever felt.”
Blue also gave her thoughts about if she had considered retiring from wrestling due to her injury and her praise of Fletcher for helping her get through her recovery.
“It was so much harder than I anticipated. I didn’t realize how much you use your leg for. Even just learning how to walk again was difficult. I was butt-scooting up stairs. And when [Fletcher] had to go to work, Robbie Eagles stayed with us for a little while.
It’d be like four in the morning and there was times where I would have to lay with my leg straight because if I moved it, it was just in pain. But this one [Fletcher] was the best because he’d be like no, tell those voices to shut up. You’re going to wrestle, you’re not going to just sit on this couch and mope. And yeah, he was by far the biggest supporter I could ever ask for.”

As noted before, AEW recently signed a new partnership deal with productivity drink company idrinq for their logo to be displayed in the AEW ring and during AEW television broadcasts. In a post made this past April on his personal website, idrinq CEO Norbert Vergez revealed that this deal was signed in October of 2024 and is for three years in length and worth $3,575,000. The reason for the length delay from the deal’s signing to its official announcement is currently not known.
This past Sunday’s episode of Family Guy on FOX featured an official crossover collaboration with AEW. During the episode, Chris Griffin competed in a tryout for the amateur wrestling team at his school and mistook it for being pro wrestling. After Chris put on a Matt Classic mask in reference to Colt Cabana and hit a fellow student with a chair, an adult showed up and put on an Excalibur mask in reference to the AEW announcer. This collaboration was revealed by Cabana to have been due to his brother currently works as the director for the series.
This past Monday’s MLB game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Fransisco Giants in San Francisco, California featured Anthony Bowens being among those in attendance and was the official guest singer for the “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” song.
In a recent interview with the Pep Talks? Pep Talks! podcast, Kevin Knight gave his thoughts about his first few weeks of his career in AEW. Knight stated “Man everything happened so fast. Like a blink of an eye, I was wrestling AR Fox on Ring Of Honor, and then soon, I get brought up to wrestle Jay on a Collision. Then in the following week, we had announced that I’m wrestling on the pay-per-view. So it’s like things happen like this. So I think it was just a tribute just to how hard I’ve worked and just the work that I put in because opportunity and preparation makes success. So I feel like I’ve always been preparing for this moment. I just had an opportunity to be successful. So it was just putting all my work out there, throwing it at the wall, giving Will everything I had, giving the city of Philadelphia everything I had. You bring good energy to Philadelphia, they’re going to give it right back to you tenfold. So the environment was amazing. Will is obviously amazing in his own right. So it’s just a matter of proving that I can keep up with the best in the world. So it was it was a validating experience for sure.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with Instinct Culture’s Denise Salcedo, Mercedes Mone gave her thoughts about her belief that “Timeless” Toni Storm is one of the best talents currently around the world in wrestling. Mone stated “I am blown away by her work. Before I even thought about signing with AEW, I was watching Toni weeks upon weeks, and I was so captivated by her charisma, character, and presence. I think she is not only one of the best women, (she is) one of the best talents in the whole world. I’ve never seen a woman captivate a character so on demand like she does. She brings so much to AEW, and I can’t wait to take that all away from here [laughs].” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s The TakeDown on SI, Samoa Joe gave his thoughts about his upcoming match against Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at AEW Dynamite Beach Break 2025. Joe stated “Expectation is always a wonderful thing. It’s there for a reason. [Fans] know what they’re getting with the two individuals involved in the match.” Joe said. “The steel cage is a [much] vaunted venue for destruction. I think Chicago’s a great town to host it. And I think, if history is any indicator, it often repeats itself and more brutally every time it happens. People attach emotion, and a lot of feelings and thoughts to what they do. There’s a simple edict in front of us, A lot of people say they wanna be World Champion, but what are you willing to do to be World Champion? And I’ve just always been resigned to do those things. I don’t think Jon has seen a clearer vision of what his future looks like. Nobody has gotten their ass beat better than Jon Moxley? Well, Jon, guess what? Ain’t nobody been better at beating your ass than me this coming Wednesday. I mean, it’s like it’s destiny.“
In a recent interview with The Daily Star, Will Ospreay gave his thoughts about his choices for potential opponents at this August’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2025 event in London. Ospreay stated “There are so many, and because of the beautiful partnership we have with New Japan and CMLL, I start to think, ‘What would be the match that would draw a lot of people towards me.’ There is one match in particular that is in my brain, and it’s only because of the history behind the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, and I have a deep connection not only with New Japan but with AEW now. It’s two months off, but ten years ago, I wrestled [Kazuchika] Okada in Reading, and I’d like to revisit that because it has been such a one-sided field where I think he has nine wins and I have two. That’s something I’d really like to revisit from ten years ago. Another one, if we’re going to go down to New Japan route, is a classic one would be me and Zack [Sabre Jr] at a giant facility. All of our matches have been in Japan arenas or intimate (venues) like York Hall. Something that has been intriguing me a lot recently is me and Gabe Kidd. The animosity that we both bring, we need a censor button, constantly. That is a South vs. North thing that people would enjoy. I’m more open to anything and everything. If everything goes my way, this is going to be an important moment for me. I want one of the biggest matches you can have.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
