Ring of Honor has been in talks for a potential new television deal in recent years.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Tony Khan’s talks for a potential new television deal for ROH ended up leading to AEW getting an unexpected deal instead for their own media rights talks in 2024.
It was reported that AEW CEO and ROH owner Tony Khan had a specific dollar amount in mind for what he believed ROH’s TV rights were worth for a potential new deal. It was also reported that while formal offers did come in, none of them matches Khan’s target goal.
Those spoken to reportedly stated that those same talks eventually lead to Warner Bros Discovery to strike a deal that put AEW Dynamite replays on truTV every Friday at 10PM EST. This spot reportedly was originally being explored as a potential landing spot for a new deal for ROH programming.
It was reported that those spoken to stated that AEW was not even expecting that kind of arrangement to emerge but the two sides came to terms anyways for it. AEW reportedly agreed to fill the time slot on truTV with existing Dynamite content rather than debut new ROH TV content and making the most of a deal that was never part of their original media rights talks.
It was also reported that there have been other inquiries over the years from networks interested in ROH but no television agreement has ever come close to being finalized.
In regards to the online rumors of AEW Shockwave being a potential third new weekly AEW show, it was reported that those spoken to confirmed that this was simply a creative pitch and not a real project in development for the company.
